The Authentic Experience

http://www.ebay.com/itm/230684588268?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_...
Hello collectors first and foremost I want it to be clear that I am not questioning the sellers credentials one bit...
Since this was certified by James Spence as you can see he signed off on this cert. this forum is strictly about JSA and there authenticating services...
This is by far the ugliest authenticated Mantle autograph I have ever seen that JSA has certified..the last name portion is quite horrific...
Has anyone ever seen Mantle ever sign in this fashion ?
Would you want to hang this up on your wall even if the auction ended under $100.00 ?
Is this a posible free bee auto some one got off Mantle while he was crowded and Mantle rushed the hell out of it ?
There are some slight authentic qualities to it and it does not fall into the category of the run of the mill fakes and forgeries I have seen...I personally think its an extremely rushed standing up Mantle or was signed while walking and signing...
ANY THOUGHTS ?
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LEAVE COMMENTS...
ONCE AGAIN I WANT TO BE CLEAR I AM NOT QUESTIONING THE SELLERS CREDENTIALS ONE BIT...JUST THE JSA CERT.

There is a Paul Mc signature currently on ebay that was also certified by this same authenticator. It is sloppy and shaky, but yes, it could be real. but then again, if you gave a real Mac sig to a 10 year old, and asked them to copy you, you would get the same result.
In my humble opinion, if you do not witness the ugly signature, I do not see any possible way you can certify it.
and by the way, even if this was "real", I would not want it in my collection.
Permalink Reply by CEE GEE on October 14, 2011 at 1:00pm my thoughts exactly terrier...I would not want this even for $10.00 it is truly terribly sloppy and really god awful if in fact it is authentic...Don't really know why they would want to authenticate this to be in the market...its just hideous...especially when sloppy authentic rushed pieces are getting turned away...this should have been one of them...

I feel the same way....Fudd doesn't like it and wouldn't want it stinking up my collection....real or not.
Permalink Reply by Mr Zipper on October 14, 2011 at 4:16pm This may be the first time, but I have to disagree with my friend CEE GEE. ;-)
I would want this and I actually like the little flair at the end. I could be mistaken, but I think it may be an early 70s era signature. It's different and not as common as the standard 80s/90s show signatures.
While we have some great threads with real Mantle exemplars, most of them are from the 80s and 90s. More exemplars from the 50s - 70s would be beneficial.
Permalink Reply by terrier8HOF on October 14, 2011 at 7:31pm I have a '61 yankees team signed ball, and the mantle is virtually identical to the 80's and 90's show signature. this signature pointed out by Cee Gee, is an odd ball at best. As to whether or not it is collectible, that is a matter of personal opinion. The fact that it is blue sharpie, would probably date it more to mid to late 70's. they were not that prevalent in the early 70's, from a collectors' stand point.
Permalink Reply by Christopher Williams on October 15, 2011 at 8:39am Mr. Zipper, I think Cee Gee would agree that it's okay for us to "agree to disagree" sometimes.
Like I wrote previously, 100% good Mantle and it's a classic that I would welcome into my collection.
Permalink Reply by Christopher Williams on October 15, 2011 at 5:41am 100% good Mantle and one I wouldn't mind owning. Nice Mantle. Rushed by still very neat and classic.

Permalink Reply by Mr Zipper on October 15, 2011 at 9:41am By the way...
I hope enough people think it is ugly so I can get it for a lowball bid!!! LOL
