I am about to make a purchase of a guitar signed by Rickey Medlocke of Lynyrd Skynyrd for a colleague retiring from the National Archives after 45 years of Federal service. He is also a big, big fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd. The guitar is from Graph Factory Authentics, an ebay seller with 1218 buyers giving positive feedback and no negative feedback.  The guitar is posted as

GFA Lynyrd Skynyrd * RICKEY MEDLOCKE * Signed Electric Guitar AD1 PROOF COA #181869334606

A similar or the same guitar is here. Photos from that post are attached.

Can anyone advise on the legitimacy of Graph Factory Authentics and the COA from Guaranteed Forensic Authenticators

Thanks.

I would not purchase anything with a GFA certification. Do a quick search of this site for GFA and you will see they certify more forgeries than legitimate autographs.

Do not confuse Graph Factory Authentics with GFA (Stephen Rocchi).

I looked at the auction, and I see no mention of Guaranteed Forensic Authenticators (GFA).

The original post which I bid on and is no longer visible on ebay stated:

GFA Lynyrd Skynyrd * RICKEY MEDLOCKE * Signed Electric Guitar AD1 PROOF COA #181869334606

but it looked just like the the signed guitar where I attached the images. Agreed that the current post that is visible (and accepting best offer bids) does not have the GFA COA. The current post also states:

COA: All items will come with a GFA COA (certificate of authenticity) and in certain instances (high valued merchandise) a tamperproof hologram will be placed on the COA and a matching hologram on the item being purchased. It is important to note that not all items come with holograms on them, but if desired GFA can add a hologram to any requested item. All items will be kept on record at GFA for any future questions.

So, I'm interpreting that the GFA COA is Guaranteed Forensic Authenticators, but perhaps that is not the case.

That "GFA" is Graph Factory Authentics, not GFA (Guaranteed Fake Autographs).

there is a major difference between the two.  Graph Factory Authentics (I wish they would change their name), from what I have seen, offer authentic autographs, and is a reputable entity.  Guaranteed Forensic Authenticators is exactly the opposite.

Ditto.

Might have been my mistake in researching this (I knew nothing about any of this a week ago) So, what does the COA 181869334606 number represent? Seems someone outside of Graph Factory Authentics (or any seller) should certify or appraise.

Pleased to hear that most folks on this thread feel that Graph Factory Authentics is for real. I also asked for a quick opinion from Roger Epperson, who also concurred that it is fine.

That number (181869334606) is the Ebay Item Number.

Welcome David and congrats for doing a little research by checking in here and asking Epperson.

Nice job, David. Way to be smart and careful about your purchase.

Thanks to everyone for your comments and assistance. I closed the deal last night and should have the signed guitar by the end of the week. My colleague will be thrilled.
