Hi everyone - I know that this was a previous topic last week in regards to a Paul McCartney signed Hofner guitar with a JSA cert that was identical to a particular High In the Clouds book signature.

http://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/macca-signed-hofner-...

Just wanted to let everyone know that there seems to be a serious scam going on as I have been given a picture to another 'signed' Hofner, equipped with a different High In the Clouds signature.

My questions for the AML group is:

1. Has anyone noticed any other artists with this copied signature issue on pick guards or any other item?

2. Do you believe this to be live ink? Doesn't look like an autopen to me.

To me, this is a huge issue because (1) the replicas are being certed (2) no one knows where these are coming from and (3) without matches, most would have accepted it as real.

Lets get to the bottom of this. A scam like this can ruin our hobby

thats what i said look at the round edges there not right ,there not factory cut.

theres clues all over if u know what too look for but they will fool just about all

Do you think that speaks to the collecting community?

well look the collectors put all this trust in people that they pay to tell the if there stuff is real or fake with no trainer per see,

they use a light too see if theres real ink well we can all do that

they trust these people  on what to buy or not so from that stand point theres already a problem and its that leads too corruptions and fruad.

especial when so sell and consign to auction houses there not non biased.

Here's a closeup of a book signature, from a past Iconic sale:

I think I am starting to agree with Steffman on this. Someone must of glued these signatures on. What crooks exist in the hobby. Btw, I took down 'fake' in the title because these can technically be genuine 'repurposed' signatures.

But I am very surprised PSA or JSA didn't catch this during examination.

Sleazy. People are paying sometimes $10,000 or more for these.

if the where real they would be 10 k plus on pickguard 15-20k on the body

the fact that so many are showing up at one time should be a big clue theres a problem

if psa / jsa isnt actualy handling the pickguard and there doing the whole guitar then its easy too fool them becuase all there doing is looking for live ink and is the sig right. no examination of the pickguard or anything,

as ive said the who tpa is ?????????? buyer beware

Can another conclusion be drawn?

These may actually be repurposed books. It's looking like a real possibility thanks to Mr. Steffman's research. It's still would not be a signed pickguard at all.

Has anyone contacted the sellers and pointed them to this discussion? It is pretty hard evidence.

I haven't yet. There is one being raffled on FB right now and two people said they tried to post about it. Both had their posts removed and one said he was kicked out of the group.
