It almost causes physical pain to look at it (Queen)

A genuine (would be) beautiful set of signatures....COVERED BY TAPE. "For protection". Looks like the tape has been on since 76 when it was signed. You just know theres no pretty way to remove it. Have you ever seen anything so.....nasty?

ANATO came in 2 covers: paper (cardstock paper texture) and glossy. Idk which would be worse to remove 40+ year old tape from.

I'm also very skeptical.  That tape is full of chemicals that seep into the paper over the years.  Over time, the tape essentially melds with the paper and ink underneath and they become inseparable.  Once, I tried to remove scotch tape adhered to the spine of an old leather book.  Very patiently I tried to soften the glue using conservation materials and when the tape finally lifted, the first layer of leather was permanently embedded on the surface of the tape.

Same here, Appleton. But i'm no restoration expert. Someone suggested one and he came highly recommended so who knows. Personally, I cant imagine 40 year old tape being able to be removed from a cardstock paper album cover...with the tape directly on the signatures in marker and pen but again...I'm not a restoration guy. I spoke to one a few days ago and he said it was possible but I dont think he got what kind of surface it was on either.

I sent a message to a top resto guy everyone uses in nyc. I'l let u know his opinion

I'm sure he'll say he can. The other did. And they might be able to, who knows. I was in touch with a young man who was hoping to buy this item. I havent heard back from him yet as to whether or not he was the winner but he didnt seem too intrested in restoring it. It would have been his first queen item and I know he was hoping to be able to get it cheap with the tape.

I deal with a top restorieror I will ask his opinion he handles most peoples rock stuff worth up to 100k.

It is a shame although, for the right price, worth owning.

It just sold for 1136usd!

i got to say, even with the tape I was tempted- great signatures.

so out of curiousity- if you owned this (with 3 of the 4 band members) and had the opportunity to get Brian May to sign it  today- would you? Or would his modern autograph detract from the piece? Thoughts anyone?

First, I would not pay that much for this taped item. Second, I would not have Brian May sign it. Leave it as it is.

I would make it complete

Just more proof Freddie's value is going up. I'm shocked it went for over 1K. This item would have sold at around 700 usd last year. This one was just not worth it imo. If it didnt have the tape and still only had the 3 signatures, it would have gone for close to 2K being on that album and from that era. 70s sigs always go for more. As for adding Brian, that's a huge NOOOOO from me. Brian doesnt sign the same way he did 40 years ago. He also dates most of his signatures now. To me, it would be an eyesore to see 3 beautiful 75/76 signatures and one giant "BMay 2018" on it.

Yeah very true, a big thick texta autograph with '18 on it would certainly kill the vibe!

people had no clue back then
