Whose autograph or autographs are you somewhat surprised that you added to your collection for one of the following reasons: 1) the person or group is a difficult autograph to find; 2) the autograph was thought too expensive to realistically think about acquiring; 3). the autograph was never a primary focus of your collecting; or, 4) all of the above?
So let’s hear your stories. How and why did that unexpected autograph end up in your collection?

This Lady. Reason 4 (all).
"This is the best thing to wear for today, you understand. Because I don't like women in skirts, and the best thing is to wear pantyhose, or some pants, under a short skirt, I think. Then you have the pants under the skirt and then you can pull the stockings up over the pants, underneath the skirt. And you can always take off the skirt and use it as a cape. So, I think this is the best costume for today." - "Little" Edie Beale 1975 Grey Gardens by Albert and David Maysles
"Little" Edie Beale signed PC from Miami, very concerned about building safety and wanting a gun. August 1987. I believe this to be a better than average example with full first name instead of the often seen "E", full letter with "love" and good content. Very Rare.
She led an interesting, if not, as many would describe perhaps, unusual life. I can imagine that would indeed be a very rare autograph.
Oh, the story. I bought it directly from Guy, the recipient.
I’ll start. My answer is Bon Scott and the 5 AC/DC members who have made up the group for,the better part of the last nearly 40 years: Brian Johnson, Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Cliff Williams, and Phil Rudd.
That answer might surprise some people here given how I’ve been pretty vocal recently about AC/DC. That’s my answer not because I’m AC/DC really doesn’t mean all that much to me. Far from it. I’ve always been a HUGE AC/DC fan dating back to 1980. But collecting them for some whatever reason wasn’t ever priority number one. Now part of that’s financial. I can’t just afford to get whoever I want whenever I want. And...I never have had any hard and fast rules of procedure regarding how I would proceed with my collection. At one point, I would be after this celeb, and then that celeb...and so on. And maybe the right deal would suddenly appear for that one but not the other one.
So it just didn’t seem like I might ever find the situation where I would be collecting the autographs of one of my Top 5 favorite artists of all-time, AC/DC. And then,,of course, Bon Scott is a whole other issue since his autograph is rare and not easy to find...and can be costly. Just a few months ago, I probably would never have thought I would add him to my collection, but now I have. And I feel pretty good about it
If not for member John William’s AC/DC signed vintage page here on AML, I might not have any of these 6 autographs.
Two significant and important men. Rubin’s pic makes me think of the adage, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” For many people, if they saw Rubin walking down the street in blue jeans and a t shirt would never suspect he was worth $250 million. Personally, I like the beard...it grows on you. Two nice autographs to own.
the only time i was surprised was when i bought a heavily demolished signed back to the future poster and thought to let it repare by a local framing company. i first send the company the pictures from that poster which i found on ebay and after their answer they could repare it i bought it. when it did arive in a tube i didn't open it but brought it directly to the company because i was afraid when i would see it first i could be feeling realy bad. the result was better than i ever could think and now it's the nicest item of mine ''back to the future'' collection. the poster was signed in boston by ''mj fox-lea thompson-christopher lloyd and tom wilson. i did frame it in a 100x70 cm frame.
