Happy Halloween, 2019! Presenting Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskó AKA Bela Lugosi

Hi All,

been wanting this little binary gem collection for years - since 11:30 Sunday morning about 1976 (Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein)!

8x10 sepia toned silver bromide(?) double-weight matte finish personal portrait by Apeda Studios, NY, of Bela Lugosi 1928 (in between the stage play Dracula and the film). Inscribed "To Carmine" and inscribed/signed boldly in black fountain pen "sincerely Bela Lugosi". VF+ Condition with no major flaws. From Tom Kramer of Goldenageautographs.com

Below is a personal portrait - 11x14 double weight gelatin silver photograph with a matte/pearl finish showing a smiling and pensive Lugosi in the same years. Stamped twice on the reverse by Lugosi's agent Don Marlowe who apparently borrowed this from Lugosi in the 40's and kept it. Fine condition.

Thank you so very much Mark, from you... :D

And James - over the moon indeed! "Bang-Zoom!" - only I sent myself there! Can't believe I own these. I don't which is the more desirable yet!

"Don Marlowe represented Bela from January 1948 through January 1949. Small ads in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Players Directory Bulletin list Bela Lugosi as represented by the "Don Marlowe Agency." During that time, the agency went through 3 different phone numbers (HO-8422, CR-4-6211 and GR-8367). If you remember the consistency of the phone numbers was a matter of question. Obviously with three different phone numbers, there were a very fly-by-night operation. Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock."

Happy Halloween Eric! That is awesome! :)

Thank you Adam! Perfect thing for today! :-)

Superb signed photo of Lugosi! A real gem, Eric. Congratulations.

Thank you Joe! I am over the moon on this Halloween! Very good and comfortable with Tom Kramer as well. Thank you. ;)

Tom Kramer is a class act.

Absolutely. I just got an Oskar Werner as well from him. Class is right.

+1

I have been meaning to mention that the mark on Lugosi's cheek is just a digital something or whatnot - the photograph is remarkably clean with little silvering :) The signature is strong as well.

I cleaned up the scan of the 11x14 photograph - was poking around online and found this image from a June 2018 Profiles in History auction but I don't know about the 1928 date - somewhere around 1930: "...Lot 917. Bela Lugosi oversize composite portrait photograph. (ca. 1928) Vintage original gelatin silver 11 x 14 in. composite photograph on double-weight matte tan textured paper. Exhibiting edge wear and indentations, not affecting the overall aesthetic of a truly remarkable portrait. In very good condition. From the personal collection of Bela Lugosi via Alex Gordon. $200 - $300..." I wonder how many there are - I have seen some 8x10's but only two 11/14's on double weight tan paper. This one and mine which  has his agents stamp on the Reverse.

And here is the closest I can find to when I believe my 8x10 was signed - July 1928. I found a second portrait like mine from the same sitting in a newspaper dated 1928 speaking of his having just finished Dracula in NYC. This SP below is from Los Angeles and dedicated to Clara Bow.
