I brought a Sean Connery signed bank deposit slip from the 1960s. He signed the back of the slip (the blank) part. it comes with a letter that recounts the story of how he came into the bank and it got signed.

My question is, do I get this framed/matted or leave it as is?

part of me says leave it alone as it adds to the story and history, once it’s in a frame you lose that. The other part of me says it doesn’t really matter and having a photo to go with a graph is a nice presentation.

 Wondering your thoughts.  See pics

How did you visualize this piece when you first glanced at it? Follow your vision. You can easily mat it in a manner which does not damage the deposit slip. It would look terrific properly matted and framed for display.

My concern is the written provenance story may take the focus away from the actual signed item. If you want to preserve provenance, the framer can mount an envelope to the back of the frame... put the provenance story in that to keep them together.

Steve took the words right out of my mouth.  Mount the letter of provenance on the back of the frame in a clear envelope.

Great ideas guys.

thanks

this was the most expensive piece for me so far, I want to do it right.
