Intriguing comparisons. I guess a 60" screen is good for something. Do you believe this is one of those Bakker forgeries or that it was a template, or you're just asking questions? Having characteristics of a Bakker forgery doesn't necessarily mean that it is one. I assume you had all this planned from the moment you started this thread? I didn't like it from the beginning, especially that double autograph, the huge Y on the front, and then clean adult handwriting in "Best to you". That's my opinion but I know the reputation Roger Epperson has in authenticating these pieces.

You've certainly brought some more evidence into the equation and no authentication can be 100%. The curve in the line that goes up and crosses the T is very interesting. One thing that Roger said is that the Bakker forgeries didn't move to actually make the letter v in Elvis that Elvis sometimes did. This autograph does have that as well as Bakker characteristics. It's a lot to think about certainly.

I don't know if the postcard is real or not—as I mentioned a few days ago, the inscription seems rather polished to me for Elvis. But I don't think it's Hans Bakker. Bakker's work looks slower and more deliberate. Rich's and John's exemplars are prime examples.

Very true. They're not speaking of the same item but they are speaking of a postcard that has been signed on both sides and was identified by two people as a Hans Bakker. That could have made this postcard the template for the others at the very least. With the downward pointing P's and the giant Y's among the other characteristics that you pointed out which are demonstrated on this postcard but not on many authentic Elvis signatures.

For next time, I think it's better to come out with the opinion first, Greg, and the evidence. Using an angry caveman to symbolize Roger Epperson probably makes him a lot less likely to share in the discussion so that it will continue and everyone can learn more.

I agree it has a lot of characteristics of a Hans Bakker. I agree with Steve that the writing is a little too smooth for Elvis but not necessarily Hans Bakker writing. I don't know if we'll get to the bottom of this. I wouldn't be comfortable buying it personally, if only because it has so many characteristics now associated with Hans Bakker.

I just looked for that angry caveman comment and deleted it. That was uncalled for, Greg. Not only did Roger discouver Hand Bakker with Rick Consola, he's helped victims get hundreds of thousands of dollars in refunds for forgeries sold.

How right you are Brick. I'm not playing into anymore of these games like Greg pulled on me. I am a legit person and dealer with nothing to hide. Like I said from the beginning; if you don't agree with my opinion so be it but don't play these childish "how great thou art" games.

Then he has the gall to bull some random blog of some newsgroup site about some autograph that has nothing to do with autograph, it's not even pictured, we don't know who even blogged it and tries to use that as proof.

Trust me; I go through the guantlet with EVERY single authentication I make. I have creeps from all over the globe watching my every move to see if i made a mistake so they can post it on some BS website or use it against me in court. I do alot of good will work on this site. I help out collectors day after day looking at their items for them, posting information about secretarial items and posting images for collectors to use as exemplars. I have gotten many collectors their money back for fake items they have bought. I'm nearing the half million dollar mark right now. What I don't need is this website putting through the "gauntlet" too. I do this on here for fun and for free. I don't need the grief or comic insults. I don't need cartoons placed trying to insult me. I would just a soon not turn this site on again if I have to deal with this. I will just run my ad and do my paying work. You can pick up my slack and deal with it. Heck on ANL you are a God. They are carrying you on their shoulders like you just scored the winning Superbowl touchdown.

Thanks for stating that I am very good as I have said of you many times before. If I had a question about something you authenticated I would email you and we could discuss it in private, no need for the world to know our business. It's just a classy way to do it. By the way nice Hendrix study.

Imagine what I had to grow up with? Imagine what I go through everyday in this hobby. Imagine your kid won't call you anymore because of the crap that is said about me on other sites and on the web. They call him names and call his other family out. I will tell you one thing my friend that no preacher, politician, authenticator, dealer, blogger, magazine writer, Priest, or even friend will get away with pulling a fast one on me either. I hope this is the end of this blog.

I had the misfortune of handling Bakker material which I aquired through another dealer. I was able to get a refund, from bakker, for most of what was purchased and have an exstensive file on him. I do not believe this to be a Bakker and would fully defer to Roger on this item, trusting his instincts and eyes.

As far as everything else he wrote about what authenticators go through, DITTO DITTO DITTO. He has said it better and more directly than I ever could.

We don't many rules beyond our Terms of Service, but you're right: When people sign up, they're told that if they are industry professionals they must identify themselves as such and use their real names.

But it's become clear that we do need a code of conduct for Autograph Magazine Live! And it's something we should put in place sooner rather than later.

Wouldn't have been much easier if Greg had just come out and stated, "Hey Roger, I'm concerned this postcard has some characteristics of a Bakker forgery. Can you explain why you think it's real?"

Instead it was set up like a "gotcha" game and I can understand why Roger would be peeved.

Maybe he made a mistake, maybe he didn't. I don't know. But he should be given the respect of a direct question.
