This is very disturbing......www.sportscollectibles.com

I just had a really weird and unsettling experience.

I currently have a signed item that I am selling on eBay to (hopefully) raise some funds for another piece I have had my eye on. The piece I have listed is signed by a person that I have great interest in. Periodically, I do a Google search of their name adding "autograph" to see if anything pops up of them fresh to the market.

Tonight I was floored to see my item on eBay come up on Google....except it's not my listing and it's not on eBay. Instead, it's being offered on a website by a business who is not me, that I don't know and have never done business with. The website is www.sportscollectibles.com. Also, the price on their website is almost three times the amount that I have set as a Buy It Now on eBay but they have a "markdown" on it which is still twice what I am asking for it on eBay.  On top of all of that, they have used the scan of the piece that I provided on eBay on their site....as well as taking information that I provided in my description to use

As I say, I do not have this piece on commission with www.sportscollectibles.com and actually have never heard of them until this evening.

What's going on here?  Anyone have any experience with this company?  Are they scammers?  Also, what would be your advice on what I might do?

Thanks!

Here is their website...it's pretty slick.

And your point is well taken, Steve, regarding someone seeing one of our listings on eBay at a third of the price as the listing on their website and thinking the eBay listing is a fake.

Are use Siri a lot and we might be married because she doesn’t understand me half the time. So you’ll see some weird errors.

Just a quick follow up to my post and action yesterday.  I increased my Buy it Now price on Ebay for the item that Sports collectibles is selling on their site, and as of this moment, they have not revised their price.  So their web crawler must not be actively seeking either availability or price variations on a daily basis.

Hope they sell your item!  I'm sure they wouldn't be happy paying for it.

Seems like this a business geared toward people who don't understand the interwebsz. Which is still a hell of a lot of people.

There are some things going on with their listings of eBay sellers' items.

As we discussed, it seems like they're only lifting items from other people's listings on eBay that have JSA or PSA letters.  So they're doing zero research on their own of authenticating whether an item they've lifted is considered authentic or not.

At least in my case, they are only showing one image of the item where I usually have multiple images of each on my eBay listings.

Their descriptions are also limited to a sentence or two and are very generic for each one. Again, on mine at least I have fairly detailed descriptions of condition, the writing instrument used by the signer, etc..... the kind of descriptions I appreciate when I'm looking at other people's listings. They just pull who certified it and that it's authentic and has free shipping.

Totally canned and apparently extremely lazy.... but hoping for the big bucks in profits on the backs of those who have done the work originally listing their items on eBay.

So much sleaze in this hobby that goes well beyond simple forgery.

On their site, on my items at least, there is a green checkmark in their listing that the item is "In Stock". How can that be when I still own it and it's with me?

It’s in stock for them to purchase and it’s shipped to them, and they ship to buyer. I don’t call that fast shipping but that’s what they do per someone I know that has shipped to Sports Collectibles for a buyer.  I’ve also changed some pricing on my JSA items.  Question is, if you pull your item, how soon does their site no long show item is available?  Prob if purchased, they realize not avail by you and they tell buyer was out of stock and refund them.

Any photographs you took of your item(s) are your copyrighted property - no watermark or ©  needed - you pressed the button on your camera and are immediately the legal author and copytight holder/owner of that image. What happens when you post them to eBay I can't say with certainty - but if you can make a complaint about another eBayer using your photographs I think you have some rights after posting the image for auction.

Ebay likely won't take any action on that front. Others have tried before (notably with other sellers using their Ebay scans for "reprint autographs."

I meant you have the rights and recourse to your image being used at the Sportscollecibles.com venue. Well worded letters can do wonders when copyright is concerned, at least from my expedience, and Steve has supplied us with a contact address. Just thinking aloud.
