Here’s an Audrey Hepburn autograph that I have in my collection and has been authenticated by Beckett, I posted this in another site but some said it looked fake. Just wondering if anyone had any opinions- would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi Gabriel-  I am not an expert on Hepburn by any means but in my somewhat limited opinion it just doesn't look right. My first impression is it seems to precisely drawn.
  • It looks like it's on a card...or a trimmed album page?  Is it a felt tip pen that was used?  As time has gone on, I've been steering clear of blank cards with "vintage" signatures on them. There just doesn't seem to be a context for an autograph on a blank card.
  • Let's see what others say.....

+1 very astute words about the odd signed cuts. Things I too have been saying.

I would agree that it looks dubious. The letters in Audrey look too uniform in size and the "H" in Hepburn has far more loops and curls than I've ever seen.

this doesnt look right at all imo

Just some additional information, this is direct from John Verzi’s collection- he was an in person autograph collector from the 1950s to the 1980s

That provenance from the Verzi collection is interesting. Did you purchase it directly from one of the dealers who have been handling the Verzi collection and then yourself have it certified/slabbed or did it come that way?

Verzi usually penciled in the date that he had met the celebrity on the back of the card.  He also had often glued small photos of the celebrities to the cards they signed (many, but not all). I'm including a Jon Finch as an example.

Some of the celebrities had made a "to John" dedication to him when they signed. Again, not all of them as seen above.

This was purchased directly from a dealer who acquired parts of the collection and came slabbed and authenticated by Beckett

The dealer has other similar index cards signed for sale- all slabbed and authenticated by Beckett as well

Here’s some others

Is there anything written on the back of the card ?
There is also an Index card from Verzi Collection here.
The handwriting on your card may be the same?
The index card looks the same.

The one I have doesn’t have any writing on the back of the card
