Incredible Luck! Gloria Swanson in Sunset Blvd Signing Copies of my 1949 SP!

Hi All,

Now I know why she signed this "Sunset Blvd"! Its one of the photos Norma is signing in response to letters that Max writes. See the photos on the table in the scene from the film:

Always nice to have photographic proof of a signing session, but to have it in the actual film the photo is promoting is superb, and possibly unique. And for such an iconic picture!

Sunset Boulevard was produced in 1949, and previewed toward the end of the year, but did not receive its official premiere until August 1950. So, the 1949 date on the photo places it right there during production. For me, this not only adds to its provenance, but to its desirability too. Much nicer than a publicity still signed after the fact.

The early still I have to go with this is also dated 1949 and shows her preparing ar her dressing table for her final descent which was deemed to show her TOO crazy. They had to reshoot months later. I imagine you know of the original beginning in the morgue?

Yes, I know of the original beginning for the film, which was switched for the swimming pool scene.

You probably think of me more as a music memorabilia collector, which I am, but I also have a keen interest in classic, cult, and arthouse cinema, together with a large Blu-ray collection that covers the 1910s all the way up to the present day. I only own a couple of autographs from the classical era, but I’d like to pick up more.
