Oskar Werner in Ship of Fools 1965 w Original Still

Hi All,

Scarce signed German photographic promo postcard from the wonderful 1965 film The Ship of Fools, for which he received his only Best Actor nomination for the role of the Ship's Doctor, Dr. Schumann. The still shows the Dr. with love interest La Condesa (Simone Signoret).

My favorite movie of his is "Decision Before Dawn."  He was also in a Columbo episode.

An extremely fine actor who ended up a total train wreck by the time of his death: alcoholic, drug-addled, and emotionally depleted.

I don't know what happened to send him off the rails. There are some interviews of him on Youtube and looks terrible: hair askew, totally disheveled in appearance, chain smoking, and struggling to put together a coherent sentence. A very sad end to a brilliant actor.
