John Lennon Autograph
Hi There,
Just after an opinion of this JL autograph and display I picked up at auction recently. It was signed on the back of a calendar from February, 1975, which I needed to open the display slightly to verify. Came with a LOA from ‘Premier Authentication. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Some of these fakes are quite sneaky. Some are quite close. This, however, is ridiculous.
Please, don't purchase any kind of Fab 4 signature without checking here first. The money and headaches you'll save are immeasurable.

Yes just recently from ICZ auctions in Palm Harbor, FL. But would have to pay for another professional opinion and still not guaranteed to get refund etc. Find it difficult to understand how they be able to get away with producing, certifying and selling these types of forgeries as I believe they have been doing this for quite some time.

Those are awful obvious forgeries there! The estimates say a LOT. Much too low. You can't buy a Cobain signed photo for anything like $600. The ICZ name is all over the web as pure scammers - always Google your potential seller and use the engine here to search as well. It is not difficult to understand - many of their customers will never pursue authentication any further and prefer to think they bought a valuable item for pennies. Knowledge is protection and power.

I understand, thank you for the advise.
I did however incorrectly assume that from time to time these people (particular musicians) may sign their name a little differently every now and then (sloppy, rushed, perhaps under the influence of something or even just not on a hard surface etc). I would have also thought the people producing these fakes would all try and copy the most obvious and standard autograph. Anything a bit different would be a gamble for them, but if a celebrity/musician wrote/signed their name a bit different they wouldn’t think twice about it.
As you mentioned Cobain. A perfect example….he never hesitated to sign autographs for fans and his signature (or just writing is name) varied greatly. All you have to do is look through his journals and see that he has many different styles of writing.
Anyway, I thought that maybe buying through an auction house that includes a COA with purchase would help eliminate or lower the risk of purchasing a fraudulent item. Obviously not!
I’ll just put this one down as a loss and lesson learned the hard way. Thank you all kindly again for your advice.

Lounge Act, where did you buy it, LiveAuctioneers? LiveAuctioneers is bad news when it comes to autographs. There are some good sellers but most that I've seen in autographs sell forgeries.

Yes, that’s correct. They did have other items such as signed guitars (Prince etc), clothing items etc that went for over $10k in the same auction so thought that buying amongst all that would offer some protection from forgeries. They also have items from Juliens that are all genuine so I guess I had no reason to really question it at the time. (My theory as explained in a previous post that was celebrities / musicians etc would occasionally sign their name a little differently, sloppy, rushed etc from time to time and that why they would sell for lower prices)

Julien's is far from a reputable auction house in my opinion.
