With the exception of the window glass and the C. 1952 model of the Genbaku Dome, all these fragments from Hiroshima were also snagged on Etsy for pennies. There was another wire nut, another Kawara roof tile (as below) I found for $50 and resold for $1000, a very good price for the buyer. It was a more common "Sareinji Temple" tile signed by the Reverend Katsuki.

As with anything, one must know exactly what one is looking at. I have had good results deliberately trying to lose money on IOffer! I sent a check made out to cash to a non-extant address in Florida and received a lovely early 1970's pencil Gleason. These are exceptions. Knowledge is the most powerful tool in the hobbyists kit.

Eric is quite right, as usual. Knowledge is the key.
I haven’t found huge amounts of rare things on Etsy, but the stuff I have found has been fantastic. I would never write the platform off out of hand.

I do agree and wouldn't write Etsy off totally. I actually scored an authentic Buster Keaton signed photograph on there a few years back. That was someone selling something that belonged to a family member who had passed away. It seems to me that the real stuff is often coming from people who are not regular dealers there and are selling in one off kind of situations.
The reason I think the other collector referred to it as "Autograph Hell" is because there is a strong element of unscrupulous dealers peddling garbage that many of us can spot quickly but many are taken in by. The claim of a provided COA is a definite lure. No question that those of us who are hobbyists can agree together that knowledge and study is important. But isn't true that many potential buyers are simply folk who are seeking an autograph and don't have the time or inclination to do that? Or would even suspect they probably should?

On Etsy, that is sometimes true (not having the inclination to find or place value) of the sellers. ;)

Oh, it’s a minefield, but folk shouldn’t be so naïve, regardless of their lack of experience in collecting. Common sense dictates that they should be more cautious if they don’t know what they’re doing, not less.
I may own a lot of autographs, but that’s not my chosen area of expertise. I collect music memorabilia primarily; in particular, vintage concert memorabilia. Autographs are a byproduct of that hobby. Anyway, amongst the copious amounts of repro tat there is the odd authentic jewel. As always, you’ve got to dig for it and recognise the good stuff when you see it. You can’t rely on the seller to spoon feed you the information. In that sense, Etsy is no different to eBay.

My cousin was looking for something from his favorite actor who is Anthony Hopkins. He has zero interest in owning an autograph from anyone except Anthony Hopkins. He ran candidates he spotted online past me over time and we finally came to something he liked and I believed was authentic. It's the first and only autograph he has purchased and he has no desire to study Anthony Hopkins' signing habits even though he is crazy about him.
I sometimes think about folks like him who simply desire an autograph of someone they admire and don't really have the collecting bug as such.

What a strange seller. Some of the reprinted signatures are being offered as originals and some are being offered as reprints.

I saw that too. Very weird. I think the MJ is a "reprint" (of a forgery).

i think the seller is forgeing autuographs and saying they are reprints so when the seller is selling autographs as originals they look exactly like the reprint to convince people they must be real,
