Who was the first U.S. president to sign a photo of himself for an admirer? I know there are extant autographed photos of Lincoln. But are there any presidents before him who signed photos of themselves?
I'm not remotely surprised by the price that the Lincoln-signed photo fetched. I guess Lincoln can be credited with establishing the practice of signing photos for fans. Thank you for your reply.
John Q. Adams in later years - engraving.
James K. Polk - the only known signed engraving as President (sold Sotheby's 2007) - 30.000$
Minor/ Vrzalik in here fine book "From the Presidents Pen" mention Martin van Buren as First President - "... taken in old age, are extremely rare and expensive, and most are c.d.v. (Carte de Visite). I have never seen one.
