No mention of artcard.

I did have a laugh this morning. I got this email from them after, they cancelled my original order of $29.98, and bumped up their price to $100. I agree with others that they should of done the only fair thing and sent out all those original orders rather than apologizing and canceling. It leaves a very bad business practice going forward. Remember they truly value every one of us... Ha!
Totally agree.
I wouldn't trust anything from Music Today. They never sent out my order, but trying to get a refund has been one excuse after the other going on for months.
To add insult to injury, "your order will be cancelled" but mine hasn't yet, they have probably decided to sit pretty on our money for as long as possible.
No one has even mentioned the UGLY cover art for release.
It's quite satisfying to see that the LP is still not sold out at the increased price.
I went for one. A 100 bucks is a good deal for a full band signed vinyl. Of course 30 bucks would have been better....
So 30$ signed Counting crows sold in 2 hours.
But the 100$ signed CC is still available.
hope they now know what their true value!
They probably pissed off everyone who wanted one. I'm actually a big fan of their older music and would love to have one but knowing they switched prices like that made me mostly lose interest... that and the cover art is pretty ugly...
but I'm sure half the ones that were sold for $30 woulda ended up on ebay for $100 anyway, so just as well the band gets the money themselves. But the way they switched it was just a bit slimey. They should have honored the $30 price for anyone who bought only one copy, since that's more likely to be a fan than a scalper.
The question is whether it was actually worth it financially for the band.
With a number x of signed records at a price of $30, the total proceeds were 30x.
If, for example, only a third of the available records are sold at a price of $100, the amount is 100 * (1/3) * x = 33.33x - not much would be gained, just a lot of reputation would be lost.
Guess it depends on a few things, one being if they're already signed... I'd assume they would be, so that means they'd be sitting around for a long time if they don't sell them quick, so they have the cost of the signed albums tied up now. No idea how many they signed... but I'm sure they'll slowly sell off.
I'm sure many actual fans like me were turned off by the greed, so that probably slowed down sales big time... but maybe some of those fans just bought the unsigned vinyl, so in that case they just broke even, minus p****** off a fan, and they didn't have take 5 seconds to sign it. I would have bought one for maybe $50-100 if they didn't switch prices. That annoyed me enough to not really want one... I would still take one for $30 though lol.
If they don't make anything extra for signing them, and didnt presign too many, then it doesn't really hurt too much, besides their reputation obviously.
Assuming it costs them $10 to make the vinyl, they sell for $30, make $20 profit... or they sell one for $100, make $90 profit... so they have to sell 4.5 unsigned for same profit as 1 signed. Less labor shipping them if they have to pay for that.
They probably seen the people asking hundreds for them on ebay and said f that, well make the money for ourselves. From what I seen at least one person paid a few hundred for one on ebay.
If it was their "August", or maybe even the next album I'd be all over it, but not worried if I miss this one.
They signed 500. It wouldn't have been the band themselves pricing the albums (so don'tblame them), it would be someone (probably an intern) low on the pole. Accidents happen, I for one wasn't going to lose out because of a simple error. There are 107 left.
