Lauren,  I'm curious who at Global has been giving you advice?  What kind of invaluable advice have they given you?

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't take Global's advice on anything except maybe Nascar.

the advice was and is still appreciated. I had no idea that there were as many forgeries out there. Yes, very nieve for someone who considers herself intelligent. I suppose as a trustworthy person, I don't immediately suspect people, obviously as a beginner with autogaphs that's where I went wrong. I thought .. if its on Ebay or auction etc.. and that if there was a COA.. it must be ok.

The advice I received was how to buy safely. This company never put down any of the other top authenticators and actually advised me to get other quick opinions, since I was asking Global first (my choice), if I was ever in doubt.

That's all I meant by the advice comment, when I asked a question, they answered. It has also save me alot of money I believe in bad purchases.

Yes there are many many many forgeries out there...more than authentic ones.

Asking Global advice on autographs is like asking Wyle E Coyote to watch Buggs Bunny. Not as bad as the rubber stamping FDE's out there, but you could do better with a dart board.

Here's the best advice from an old collector. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH and use these 3rd party authenticators as a guide only. Global (new and old-youre going to have to research these 2 factions and try to make sense of it) do not have the best reputation... PSA & JSA are the leaders, but also make many multi $$$$$ errors. Just slow down. Learn as much as you can about who you want to collect and then "go for it". Good Luck

It is my opinion that Global Authentics should not be on Ebay's prequalified authenticator list. 

Lauren, I don't know who you spoke with at Global Authentics, but you should ask them about the Derek Jeter autographs they've been been authenticating over the past few years.  I recently posted an article here on that subject.

After GAI went belly up, Global Authentics was born, and collectors were hoping that Global Authentics would make us forget GAI, but that hasn't happened.  What GAI did with those Mantle, Williams, DiMaggio, etc., forgeries (The Mike Baker Collection as I call it) is unforgivable.

Fuddjcal said it best.  Do your research and try to learn.  It takes a long time to learn autographs and it's a never-ending education.

Another number that might surprise you (not us) is that the majority of autograph collectors own forgeries.  It's the sad truth.

Thank you for response, and candid opinion.

I am going to take the time and learn. Unfortunately, I probably will not become as good at authenticating an autograph, when some forgers are so good at what they do. But I am confidant I will be able to single out the not so good ones after some research, which in the beginning I did not do.

Hey Christopher,

I see that your fearless leader Steve Cyrkin has some big explaining to do after his reckless acquisition and sales of the swill in his advertisements for Starbrite. Nicely done Steve, how is it that you can call out anyone on an autograph with that history??? I think your wording for autographs this bad is HORRIFIC right Christopher??
