Beatles and Cassius Clay autographed glove
The story is that the Beatles and Cassius Clay signed two boxing gloves, February 18th, 1964, when they met. One glove was auctioned some time ago. The other is with a memorabilia store I visited a few days ago. I had never heard of this item, and have a picture. The signatures of the Beatles look very good! Of course, signing on a boxing glove has got to pose some problems for an authenticator. Has anyone heard of these gloves? What is the opinion of our experts? I asked for provenance. Owner will only say it was obtained in a "collection" and the store (which is well known) will give COA and guarantee. They will not say who obtained the autographs or the circumstances. The glove is being sold, authenticated by a "well known" authenticator we all know. What I find interesting, is that the signatures look very good, and seem to compare very well with the Beatles autographs from around 1964.

Great work, Steve!
It seems to meet all the basics for a memorabilia mill:
a neverending supply of supposedly rare material, always perfect signatures, never an inscription and typically offered at way below the market price for a genuine item of its kind.

While you're at it, ask the Mirage to explain the fake Beatles-signed Hofner bass that they've displayed in the exhibit next to the LOVE show for years. They reportedly bought it from the Art of Music for $150,000 and know that the autographs are forgeries.

I'll tell you why this is a great site!!!
There are numerous great contributors to this site who put their necks on the line exposing this crap. Mr. Cyrkin is one of them. And what makes this site really great is the fact that for the last few years we have been outing those who sell forgeries. They hate us, and will do anything to intimidate us to stop.
It is great that collectors are finally stepping up in numbers to expose the crap that has infected the hobby for a long time.
And I, for one, want to thank Mr. Cyrkin for this site that we use as a platform to expose those that produce and sell forgeries.

Nice statement Christopher.... Brings up an interesting point. We are smart enough to not be misled by the hype. The AOMLV store who told me about the glove had Pete Rose signing autographs for several hours during a 2 or 3 day period. It's easy to be taken in. What do we do? With the internet, we have the power to expose some of these folks, and make it a better place for the uneducated buyers. I will be glad to give this group the name of the person who talked to me about this item. Do we call them and ask them to take the item out of their catalog? Do you realize.... do a google on "cassius clay beatles glove" and our discussion comes up? I think this is great! Based on Steve's great research, I can now confirm that the asking price for this was 25k! I am particularly concerned because this is the SECOND time, at AOMLV, that I have been shown items that are VERY likely not genuine. YES, I would also like to thank Steve for this site.

The Art of Music also had a top hat and football supposedly signed by the Beatles at one time. Right.
These kinds of pieces are done by someone nicknamed the 3-D forger. He (if it's a he) does things like Marilyn Monroe signed purses, ceramic dachshunds signed by the Beatles, Princess Diana signed hats, Churchill signed walking sticks, cast-signed hats like Brando wore to garden in The Godfather...Davy Crockett autographed canteens...stuff like that.

At times we will all have to agree to disagree. Various opinions fuel creativity here.
In my humble opinion, because of what we do here, no one has had to absorb more threats than people like Steve Cyrkin, Richard Simon, Roger Epperson, Mr. Zipper (Steve Z.), DB, and myself. If there's anyone I've failed to mention, I apologize. That's the price we pay for standing up for the entire autograph hobby.
I know I've gotten a little off track here, but numerous members of this site have exposed the crap being certed by Chris "I Never saw An Autograph I Didn't Like" Morales, Ted Taylor, Drew Max, Coach's Corner, etc.
Every once-in-a-while, all of us here deserve a little "pat on the back."
