Questions On Music items from UK dealer
Garry King is well liked by some but I see a big problem with some of the items I see on his site. I'm not referring to Kenny Baker and other small bits but rather the large $$ music items.
Dealers in the UK might not be aware of current music item that they offer for sale. In another thread several autographs from Autografica were deemed fake. The items were Clint Eastwood, Charlton Heston and Harrison Ford.
He might not know there is a problem.

Mike Aring told me personally, through facebook, that he knew who Adrian is and that he had seen Adrian get autographs from Michael Jackson before. But, Mike said that was a long time ago and that he hadn't seen Adrian for the last 2 or 3 years of Michael Jackson's life while obtaining autographs from Michael Jackson. And just for exemplar purposes, this is a photo that was signed April 2 of 2009 at the Bel Air Hotel. I don't know how "medicated" Michael was at this time, but the autograph looks pretty good to me, and nothing like Adrian's.

I imagine this will fall on deaf ears, but be careful believing what Mike says. Mike told me that Michael Jackson signed the Thriller album we were going to use for the cover of our Michael Jackson issue right in front of him—yet it's a common forgery. We ended up using it as an example of a forgery in the feature:
Roger was out of town and didn't see it until I built the cover and started pre-selling them on eBay and our website. If he was on vacation a week longer, we would have printed 25,000 Autograph Magazines with a forgery on the cover because Mike Aring swore he got it in person.

I don't know. He told me it was authenticated by PSA/DNA after Roger rejected it, but if you read the comments under on the photo http://live.autographmagazine.com/photo/michael-jackson-thriller he said he meant that Kevin from PSA said it was good...so that was as good as PSA authenticating it. He supposedly kept it for himself.

Please correct me on any point because it is getting confusing. Travis said that Mike saw Adrian get in-person Michael Jackson autographs 2-3 years prior to Michael Jackson’s death. The Autografica signatures in question were acquired by Adrian or Dominic or whoever shortly before Michael Jackson’s death. Mike Aring supplied a signed Thriller album to Steve for the cover of the magazine that he said he got in person. Roger Epperson determined that the autograph was not genuine. Mike still swears that it is genuine and that he has it hanging up on his wall to this day. At least that is what he said in the deleted discussion where he posted a photo. The photo, by the way, had an evident flash reflection which led me to believe that it actually was framed on his wall. So I guess my question comes down to this. If Mike swears that he got it in person what exactly did Roger see that indicates it is not genuine? Does he suspect that it is one of Adrian's? Keep in mind that this is all a learning process for me and I am sincerely interested in learning how to detect these things when it comes to in-person signatures and suspected forgeries. And my hearing is just fine.

That's a good question: I'll ask Roger to tell us what he saw, but I don't think it's one of Adrian's.

True, Adrian did get Michael . Ive seen him a ton out in Hollywood in the past. But I have not seen him in about 5 years or so .

That pic is a nice one. Would love to have that. I dont care if he was doped up or not. Guessing he was probably doped up around the clock the last 10-15 years anyway.

the following was some of what Aring commented on in the original thread about the Jackson in question (minus completely irrelvent portions dealing with unrelated matter upto a point in my view & imo);
...i guess he has a right to question things. would have been better had he just asked me. he's been telling people he doesn't trust me for a while now. and i'm sure it started out because he thought i was stealing his book. but he got it back. and it's just snowballed with his roger thing and my michael jackson album he tried to put on the cover of the now defunct magazine. and i've even posted that michael here as authentic... because i saw him sign it with my own two eyes. actually, here it is.question it all you want. i don't care.. it's hanging ON MY WALL AT HOME... i guess i hang fake items that i got myself and witnessed with my own two eyes get signed. no, it's not for sale. ...
one item to note was on the manually created file info it indicates 6-21-2009 on it which would be 4 days before Jackson's death. There isn't any independent support for the picture file date nor anything else as the "file" informaton is manually created by the owner of the file. Note: I added Aring when I stored it..

Thanks DB. I knew that what I recalled was accurate. At this point I am just concerned as a collector that reputable dealers may be placing too much value in the people that they receive their items from when determining whether or not a signature is authentic. Anyone who has been following this story from the beginning should be concerned as well. I understand that trusting a supplier is an essential part of the process but it should not be the only determining factor. There are some forgeries that a child could recognize. Just look at CEE GEE’s blog on Derek Jeter forgeries. These questionable Michael Jackson signatures are not as easy to detect in my opinion so we collectors need to trust professionals like Roger to make the proper determination on each and every item that is brought before him.
