Michael Jackson Signing Styles in Julien's Tompkins and Bush Sale

On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Rog is the best. That's why the folks who sell forgeries hate him so.

I should point out that PSA/DNA did all their authentication through their normal system. I paid for 10 Quick Opinions and submitted them, and about a week later NBC News paid for 11 and submitted them. They truly were arms-length opinions.

Absolutely, PSA/DNA have not formally weighed in.

And yet their respected reputation speaks for itself and they came back twice to two separate parties... on 21 quick opinions, with the same "Not Likely Genuine".

You sure have opened my eyes, now I wonder how easy it is to get my money back!?!

Being a life long fan of MJ it was always a dream to meet him. With his passing, I guess an autograph was the next best thing. I once bought a MJ autographed LP on ebay believing it was genuine but when it came without a return address, (something so valuable) I took the issue up the seller and they readily agreed to return my money, which they did. The seller was scammed by a third party who was consigning the items using the ratings the seller had accrued. So when this Tompkins Bush Auction came up, I thought, someone from MJ's inner circle/ the person the family entrusted with dressing MJ for the last time- it has to be the real deal. It's not so much the money that I have lost, it's disappointment in human character.

I have never bought anything in an auction and I never will. Julien's Auction house has put me off forever. They have really ruined it for their industry.

So sorry to hear you have been caught up in this, Sze!

It just shows again what damage these people have done by their callous greed. If Bush thought Michael wouldn't mind him making a quick buck he forgot the heartbreak (never mind the financial loss) he caused to the fans who only wanted to feel closer to Michael by owning something they thought he had touched.

Hopefully it should not be too hard to get your money back, though it may take time. Do what Steve advises and write to them immediately.

Thanks I'll do so Helen. The people who have contributed to this tread have done a most fantastic job on this. When I saw the comparison between authenicated MJ signatures and those of Bush's I was immediately blow away at how different they were! The slant of the letter, the captial N, the loop of the N, the fact that he signed on a poster printed October 2009... it was glaringly obviously. I fell prey to the emotion of it all... a lesson learned.

For once, it is really exciting to see the media say or do something positive for Michael Jackson and his legacy. The fans and collectors on this board have made a huge difference. Now, only if the media can retract their ridiculous accusations and statements for the 1993 and 2005 trials...Michael went through a lot (with clear cut evidence surfacing over the years showing those trials had no merit), I truly believe his fans is what pulled him through. =)

I thought the same thing Prashant, about the media miraculously doing a pro-MJ piece. I'm very thankful to those at KNBC who did so in this case.

Michael was a good person who gave enormous amounts of time and money toward making this a healthier, happier planet. Sociopaths don't understand that human nature. The media has a LOT of correcting, fact checking and truth telling to do. I won't hold my breath. :(

I think that is a reflection of the media and news. Just harp on anything negative to generate ratings...and Michael Jackson was their source of that. The tabloid industry shot up in popularity and therefore profitablity...hmmm, when? During the 1993 scandal...no irony there. Despite all the goodness you mention of MIchael and his giving to others, it was always the juicy tabloid trash that became the focus. As a result, the average viewer bought it for its face value. That is one of the main reasons why I admire Michael Jackson...he went through so much unnecessary suffering yet gave so much of himself away to others and the world! All for LOVE. Honestly, no celebrity has or will come close to his humanitarian spirit. We love you Michael!
