On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Thanks for your help.

Veronica, are you going to return your jacket b/c of the forged signature?

Yes I am

You will get your refund, Veronica.  We'll all be here working with you until you do.  I'm sorry about your mom's Visa - on top of everything else!

<3 you're all so sweet. Thank you.

Added pain and suffering :(

A STUDY IN MJ's E

I forget who it was that found a backwards 3 style E written by Michael in a note to either Sandy or Justin... In looking through some of my collected writings, I've found a few more examples where MJ did this.  They are less common than his lower case "e" and I've only seen him use it for a capital E at the beginning of a word - like "Every".

I've not seen him use the backward 3 style E in any word as a lower case "e" - such as in "Dennis" or "Yes", which is where we were finding example after example of them in the Julien-Bush auction.

I've also seen MJ use a regular printed capital E at the beginning of a word, as well.  So he's used both the regular and backward 3 style capital E at the beginning of a word.  But I've only seen him use the regular lower case "e" inside of a word.

Here are three examples.  Note the words:  Enjoy, England and Emergency ...(lol)

Another example, in the word Eatin  (MJ song "Eaten Alive" written/composed for Diana Ross who recorded it) :

A few more examples of the backward 3 style E - here in the handwritten lyrics to "Little Susie". Notice he also uses lower case "e" at beginning of words.

Example using backward 3 style E in word "Evevery" (misspelled "Every").  He uses lower case "e" at the beginning of the words: entire, each and exactly.

An example of MJ using the regular style capital E at beginning of the word "Even".

Few more MJ writing examples, with all lower case E's throughout.

Wendy,

When you're hot, you're hot! Really valuable. I have more writing. I may just send it to you if that's OK.

Thank you, Steve.  I'd really appreciate any examples you have time to share.  I'm always up for studying more signatures and writings.

btw, all of that calculating of hammer prices, premiums/commissions and CA taxes was most impressive!  Great job to both you and Michelle for staying on top of the bottom line.

Here are a few more MJ writing examples, not specifically for the E, just in general.

That's my babe, she is the baddest :-) Thank you so much Wendy, you never cease to amaze me.

Teamwork.

I have a whole album, much of this stuff and maybe more you can go through. Notes of hos like this, on my facebook page     http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1703654865220.93482.105343...

Very valuable. I find my handwriting is very similar to MJ's. I have always been the type of person who interchanges letters like that. I dont know why. Im sure it says something of our personality. I tend to do many of the same things he does. I use capitol and small letters mixed sometimes print and cursive mixed I use the backwards 3 E sometimes also and sometimes not so no one writes a word the same every time.

Good stuff!
