What do you think about this Christy Mathewson autographed baseball?

It looks to me like it's authentic, but I cannot tell for sure.

Thanks.

take a look at the C. if you look at any Mathewson signature (of this style,as I believe his early ones were different), the C starts at the baseline and moves up to form the top curve. This one starts more than half way up.  here is an example:

Yes, I did notice that actually.

Thanks.

The stutter into the s was a giveaway to me.

So why are people like this allowed to get away with selling fake merchandise then?

Why doesn't the FBI shut them down? I don't understand.

You've been a collector for how long now? Think about how hard it is for you to start to understand what's going on.

Can you imagine how hard it could be to convince a jury?

The FBI would need another full staff to go after all the bad guys in autographs.

In the scheme of things it is not at the top of their priority list.

It also is not easy since the authenticators give an opinion and state they are not responsible if they make a mistake. That is their out.

The seller's out is they are selling the item based on the opinion of the authenticator.

It is tough for them to do much.

I don't understand either Dustin, that's what is so maddening...how this fraud is perpetrated almost with-out retribution. I apologize for being a "little" hard on you. I will explain where my anger comes from regarding this hobby. It's people who don't listen to others who know more than them. Not everyone is exceptional in everything, not even me.

A pet peeve of mine transcends autographs and I am going to share it with you and all the readers here one time and one time only. I usually don't get this deep or open myself up like this because of all the half wits associated with autographs and different websites this will likely be held against me. They love to point me out for having a big mouth and thinking I'm better than them. But I do have thick skin, so I could care less what people say about me. My friends know the type of man I am, My family knows and my wife knows. My customers know. Other than that I DON'T CARE!

I have been made fun of by friends most of my life. It's how we show endearment believe it or not. So I learned to take it and dish it out....HUMOROUSLY. I have had a great sence of humor my entire life and recognized by friends as the funniest guy they know. Most of them since Grammar school.

We have all grown up to be successful in our own right. Some are doctors, law enforcement, business owners that dwarf mine. Do you know how we got there? Listening to others who know more than us. Asking for advice, listening and actually taking it.

I owe 90% of my success to friends. I make sure to tell them every year too how much they mean to me and thank them for being great friends. I am empathetic to others almost to a fault and it chafes my fanny when other aren't. It's one of the reasons I get agitated is because I hate to see others being taken advantage of. It's not that I think I'm better than anyone like a certain FATHEAD thinks on another site. The reason I despise that fathead is because he is a one tracked mind jerk with no feelings for others and everything is about AGENDA, not others being taken advantage of. It is funny how I can share the same views as the imbecile and still just hate what he stands for. He has had ample opportunities to show that empathy for others on multiple blogs and continued to be an ass anyway. I certainly do not wish to be taken down that road and become a miserable boob like that guy. If that's my autograph blog persona so be it.

So, when I wanted to start my own business, I consulted my friends who were in their own business and asked them for advice. Guess what, I listened. When I bought my first home, I consulted friends who had bought Real Estate before me and guess what, I listened. When I have a legal question, I ask my friend who is a Lawyer and guess what? I listen to him. You can get advice from people but unless you heed the advice, it is worthless.

That's why I get so sick up and fed with people who have thick skulls and don't listen. That's where my true passion comes from though, trying to help others, believe it or not. It's why I give freely to charities and buy lunch for vendors & customers constantly...showing them how much I appreciate them. The thing that most people don't know about me is that I get along with everyone. One of my strengths and a secret to my success is living my life with integrity and treating everyone I meet the same. With respect. I interface with Presidents of fortune 500 companies and also with hard working people who are knee deep with Hazardous and industrial waste everyday. Many of them barely speak English. I listen to them and try to share my life experiences with them to try and make a difference in their lives. It's called paying it forward. It's funny the way it works. I can't explain it, but the move you give, the more you get. That's what I try to do here.

I am not going to be blogging here for a while, because I do not wish to be a distraction from what this site has been doing and is trying to accomplish. I really can't play the nice guy. I'm much too opinionated I guess.

My friend told me the other day that I have a blessed life. Yes I certainly do....and it has nothing to do with autographs...nothing.

Well written, Fudd.

Fudd, I look forward to each and every one of your comments.  You are not allowed to take a break from blogging here!   We need the "distraction"!
