STUDY: Jerry Lee Lewis - TTM real or not real
Steve asked me to start a new thread since some were having a lot of issues with regards to whether or not the through the mail autographs of Jerry Lee Lewis are real or not. I will post some examples of what we have been getting recently and some know in person examples. These TTM signatures are not cheap. You have to pay $50 for them to his box office box. The question is are they real or not. Roger has said that he has never seen Mr. Lewis sign this way and it looks to perfect - like a woman's signature.

So, what we have here is several of us who have PAID Jerry Lee Lewis for an autograph. While reasonable, the fee was set by Mr. Lewis. When we received our autographs, they were signed by someone else, according to a mountain of evidence. I mailed out another package last week, and if and when I recieve my items back unsigned, I am going to be furious. Whatever the price was, we have been defrauded and I am not at all cool with it. My question is, what is our next step? Do we send a group letter/request demanding to be takien care of? Do we contact the authorities?

No Steve that is not what I'm saying at all and please don't put words in my mouth. I just made a point that if you want to run a business then do it right. Many people including the judicial system put celebrities on pedestal and think they are above the rules but don't. They are people just like you and I and if they want to run a business then they have to accept what feedback from the "general public" has to say.
Ballroom, I don't agree with you at all in your last statement, not even one tiny bit. I am offering AUTHENTIC JLL photos on my site for less then what it would cost you to pay him, mail it to and from and buy the item to be signed. You have seen items yourself on Ebay that have sold for less then the combined cost he charges. When you buy from a reputable auction house you have a guarantee of authenticity that you don't have from JLL's site. I don't know if you are or have ever been a business owner but this kind of stuff comes with the territory. You can't have someone crying that your feelings are hurt and that you have accept what someone other then the person doing the signing says is the truth. If you don't like doing business like everyone else in the US has to do then close your doors.

I do not feel bad about it for Mr. Lewis at all. They created this situation. They have been very nice and took care of me, for which I am thankful. I paid to get an authentic autograph of jerry lee Lewis, which according to experts, I did not get. Thus I did not get what I paid for. Plan and simple. I was very polite and professional with all my communications.
I will probably send some more items to get signed with a check for $100 per. I would hope I would get the real deal.... Right now - who knows.
I agree with what Roger said.... If these were free then who are we to complain..... But they are not free.

I was very nice about it too Mark. I never used the words fraud, cheated, etc. I said my autograph had come into question with some experts on this site. I gave no names. I even said I was not upset by any means but would like the sleeve signed so I could run it by the experts here. I said I would soon send a check for 100.00 to get another item signed if I was satisfied. I dont know what else I could have done. Im not sure I will be sending another check though, since I am out 50.00 already. My guess is they may be getting a lot of similar mail now that is upsetting to them.

A perfect example of how a business should be is Bob Dylan. Bob has by far the most inconsistent signature of ANY music celebrity I have ever studied.
Bob decided to market his artwork and signed harmonicas for Hohner and EVERY single signed item looks the same. They are perfect and consistent signatures on EVERY item he has sold. I bought the set with with 7 signed harmonicas and one was smudged and I contacted Hohner about it and they didnt tell me that Dylan was hurt or upset about this, they sent me another free of charge, no questions asked. If the most inconsistent signer of all times can understand the value of his SIGNATURE when it is being PAID for can get it, it's time for any celebrity who does it to do the same thing!

The bottom line is this. These autographs were bought through the mail. The Postmaster General doesn't take fraud by mail very lightly. It shouldn't have to come to that. Why not just fix it and make it go away? Why keep insisting that Jerry Lee signed these things when he and all of us know that isn't true? You don't even have to admit anything if you just take care of it. What they did for Mark Roberts was fantastic and the way it should be handled. I will not accept anything less personally.

Ballroom, you are certainly entitled to that opinion. I personally do not see that as a possibility until I see an in-person example that matches the ttm ones. Believe me, I really WANT this autograph to be real. I don't want to feel like one of my heroes cheated me. Speaking for myslef alone here, based on the evidence presented I can't come to that conclusion. Again, speaking for me I will feel feel that I have been cheated until I get an autograph that looks like the one Mark Roberts just got back. The one I have is not even close. Anyone else have thoughts?

Sure, here are my thoughts. The autographs that JLL was selling through his website 10-12 years ago for a smaller fee were authentic. They match up with my IPs. The ones recently purchased for 50.00 TTM were not authentic. UNless he totally changed his style in the way he shapes his L's and adds the lines underneath, I dont see anything that is close to the IPs or the TTMs from years ago. Also the S in Sincerely was written 2 differnt ways! The one Mark got back recently looks real (and different to the recent TTMs). I'd say he got lucky because the letter John Carpenter got back with his unsigned piece sounds like they knew they got caught and in no way will they admit it. Why would they? It constitutes fraud. From this pont on, anyone sending in 100.00 will no doubt get a real one back. Those are my thoughts.
