Hello,
I have purchased storage lockers at auction for the last ten years and recently acquired a locker with over 50,000 books that date anywhere from the early 1800's to the late 1970's.
Many of these titles have had signatures/inscriptions, and in most cases, this adds to the value of the book. I have successfully sold hundreds of these books on ebay over the last few months and have never had an issue with bogus signatures.
Earlier this week I began to list some titles and came across a paperback titled "The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics" edited by Alan Aldridge 1972. On the first free endpage there is, what appears to be, a Michael Jackson signature.
Being that this was a more contemporary and famous name than my other finds, I googled images for "Michael Jackson Signature". There were many variations available for viewing, but most did not resemble the one in my book.
I was hoping that someone here, more familiar with this subject, could offer their opinion as to the authenticity of my find.
Thank you in advance for your help,
John

Never seen an MJ signature even close to this one. I'd say no good.
I'd pass. Again repeating everyone else' sentiments. Never seen this style from him. His old school style was a little more messy, and not like this.

Thanks for the replies.
I was also leaning toward bogus, as I spent the vast majority of this afternoon and evening online, scouring google and any site that was remotely related to MJ memorabilia. I found no signature that was a match.
Then I came across this page.
Could it actually be genuine?
Seems like an awful big coincidence to me.
Now I am really curious to find out the truth.
Thoughts anyone?
I'm not sure what your asking.
The facsimile autograph on that page (on his yellow sweater vest photo) looks nothing like the one you show in this discussion. Is there somewhere else on that website that your comparing your autograph to? I didn't go scanning through their site.
True, the signature on the yellow sweater vest is in no way similar to the one inside the book I have.
I was referring to the note at the top of that page written in red ink, dated 5/5/85, from MJ to his assistant .
He is asking for Robert Hilburn to find him 3 copies of "The Beatles Illustrated Book", and under that is penciled in the name "Alan Aldridge"
That is the SAME BOOK I HAVE !!
Just seems to be more than a coincidence to me, or at least deserves more investigation.
Its not his autograph/signature. I study only MJ auto's and that's not his. It might be that someone wrote on it to show it was the copy going to him, I have no idea.

BTW if you want, you can send the photo of the auto to Roger Epperson - there is a link on the side of our forum here to get to his website. He's really good at MJ's as well, and he can give you an opinion. He does charge for a quick opinion (he's a paid authenticator), but if your in doubt, its worth the 15.00 to put your mind at ease. (I believe that is his going rate right now for a quick scan sent via email) He does music autograph authentication.

Fair enough.
I guess when I list it on ebay I could say that it was "possibly" owned by MJ, and refer to the "red pen note", although the signature is not his, it could have been penned by an assistant to show ownership.
If I start the auction at a reasonable price (going rate for this title, absent an MJ signature is around $40) perhaps a few fans would be willing to take the chance and bid it up a bit.
Thank you for all the help, and if I run across any additional questionable signatures I will be sure to return for some opinions.
The name Michael Jackson is not exclusive to the pop star......we have a congressman name Michael Jackson.....if you are going to list it on eBay, i would highly discourage having a description that could be misleading. Especially with an item that is not even related to Michael Jackson the singer.
