Many a times me and my compadres have been known to frequent hotels, restraunts, airports, etc. to obtain an autograph.  Personally, I don't really see a problem with it.  I just chalk it up to the price of fame.  However, I've heard many a people complain about graphers who graph hotels and airports.  I just wanted to get some insight from some people and see what you think; hotel/airport graphing- yea or nea?

C'MON I THOUGHT THIS WOULD SPARK A LOVELY DEBATE AND NOBODY IS ANSWERING

bothering people at Airports and hotels is for low lifers and desperadoes...get a job and a life that doesn't include stalking other people. How's that for a debate

As the late great Sam Kinison would say, "Good answer, good answer. I like the way you think. I'm gonna be watching you!"

great answer Fudd, but you forgot the CAPS

So it´s better to buy overpriced autographs with doubtful authenticity (I´m still saying that you can be 100% sure only in case of in-person obtained sign) and support autograph bussiness which caused many people to stop giving autographs to real fans....  What a great solution. ;)

I believe it's a personal choice on how you want to spend your time, and what you want out of your collection.  Many of us do not have the time or the inclination to stalk people for autographs. Part of the challenge of collecting is using your knowledge to find "deals" on autographs that you personally have determined are authentic.

Except for official autograph sessions, every in-person autograph is "obtained" by this type of "stalking".... When you buy it from dealer, he probably had to do similar thing too - and believe me, dealers will probably have much less respectful attitude (because he does it for money and many youtube clips speaks itself) than fan who wants autograph as souvenir from meeting his favourite star (musician, athlete,...) - so what´s different? Please keep on mind that it´s always the celebrity who sets the rules and I really cant agree or "accept" using the word "stalking" when you are going to "welcome" the band on their arrival to your country / city.... Hotels? They always have the option ignore people waiting for them - it´s their full right. During South American leg of Wall Tour, Roger Waters (he´s great example) made about half hour autograph sessions there - and it was his decision. I know that many people are able to go way too far and violate their privacy and I dont like these people too.... But I cant accept that "airports, hotels are for poor stalkers" description!

I loved the Sam Kinison analogy. LOL, Ran in to him in the mid 1980's at the Universal Amphitheater in the bathroom at a rehearsal for a show he was in. I think it was a comic relief? (I also ran into Ed O'Neil in the same bathroom) I was helping a friend who ran security there. I was taking a leak by myself and I glance over and Sam Kinison walks in. I laughed and said "you never know who you're gonna run into here". I told him I was a was a "big fan, big fan". He said thanks, smiled and I bolted out. Never crossed my mind to ask for an autograph....just like so many others I have run into over the years.

For many years, the one guy I never met, saw or ran into was Vin Scully. I was staying at the Omni, before it was a dump and I'm going up to my room. I'm standing in the elevator with my buddy,  and in steps Vin. My mouth dropped. I told him the impact he had on me growing up and how much I loved and appreciated him. again, why would I cheapen the moment by asking for an autograph? That's just me I guess....Act like you've been there and just enjoy the moment. Chasing and stalking is just stupid and it scares a lot of people. LOL

To be able to take a leak next to Sam Kinison...that might be better than sex! I can just imagine Kinison beginning the process, and as the rush of relief overcomes him, he lets out one of his iconic yells, "Oh, ohh, ohhhhhhhhhhh!" At least that's how I want to imagine it. Man, I think that experience would have been payment enough for me! And then Ed O'Neil too - awesome.

You realize that "stalking" is a legal term, right?

Whats up with the ALL CAPS.  Jeez.

Chill pills in the cabinet Johnathan.

I'm not really 100% sure how I feel about this. I kind of think that hotels or airports are okay places for the average Joe to try to get an autograph, maybe if this is just something that you occasionally do. Now, if this is your livelihood, maybe you should consider pursuing something more productive because then you kind of seem like the paparazzi.

I have heard also that if you're an employee of a hotel where a big star is staying that you can lose your job if you ask for an autograph. Some years back, Paul McCartney was staying at a hotel in Kansas City. I had a friend of a friend who worked where Paul was staying, and management told employees that autograph requests would equal loss of employment. They absolutely were not to bother Paul McCartney for an autograph. Now, of course, the hotel would probably only find out if Paul made a complaint.

However, it might have been worth it if you could somehow have gotten Sir Paul to sign about 500 photos for you!
