I agree I think that it would be a shame for him to leave. Whereas good people can disagree it is always good to realize that the other persons opinion is important too.

I actually like the guy. Everyone gets all butt-hurt in this hobby, its refreshing to have someone knowledgeable come in and call it like he sees it. I don't always agree with his opinions, but he presents logical arguments often backed by facts and evidence, which is more than most of us do here. I think he genuinely cares, but people are put off by his brash approach. It would be a shame to lose him because people can't get over a difference of opinion once in a while. We're all adults here.. we should be able to handle it.

+1...I wholeheartedly agree with Mike. Coming brand new to the forum a few months ago, I was interested in receiving knowledge about Pink Floyd signed items. As many of you in here may know, this guy was an expert on Floyd stuff. Not only did he provide accurate analysis for the band, I was extremely fortunate to obtain two stellar pieces (Gilmour and Waters) to start my collection, all under his guidance. I even listed the active auctions to discussions, as he gave me assurance that he would never poach an item away, even if he could easily make a quick dollar. Sure he may have been cocky to some, but he knew his stuff. Was fortunate to get his opinion ..BTW here's the two items

I don't want to come on here and attack Steiger, He seems to really wish to protect his identity and I can in a way respect that. He seems to know his stuff, and it would be a shame to lose someone who has knowledge (same as how we have lost Roger) The only critical thing I will say is, with anonymity also comes the power of not having to take responsibility for your actions, you can be right or wrong and you don't have to worry about the consequences. Without holding an object in your hand you can't be 100% sure something is real or fake, that is why the quick opinion is just that and opinion. Where they say "likely" genuine or "likely" fake.
It also bothered me how quick he was to inflict his opinion on the "top tier" Beatles experts, sure they make mistakes (as Steiger himself has admitted he does too) but I do not believe it is fair to criticize these people (in terms of financial gain) unless you are willing to say who you are. PSA and JSA can be anyone, the ones who who come out and say who they are have to deal with their own reputation and lively hood and unless you have evidence to back up those claims it is reckless.
But as far as whether or not I think Steiger should stay or leave it is ultimately up to him, but I think it would be a great loss to this community if he did go. He obviously knows his stuff, but I would not "bet my life on something being fake" and I think it is best for EVERYONE to use the term "likely" not genuine or "likely" genuine when giving their opinions too. I tend to believe he is more then just what he says he is, but that is just me and I would be speculating otherwise.
Hope he stays.

Just one last point from me. Not suggesting anyone else should think or feel the way I do, but one key to gaining competence in this or any pursuit is to try hard to maintain objectivity, to be completely dispassionate. It isn't always easy to do. In this discussion, there seems to be some speculation about identity, location, motivation. I have struggled to understand why these things would matter to anyone. I don't feel entitled to the details of his personal life. I find his contributions informative. And in my personal interactions with him, he has been generous. I don't think I know enough or have enough experience to have firm opinions about the veracity of each thing he writes. If I did, I'd either concur, or object, and try to make my case. Or, maybe if I disagreed, I'd just tip my hat and move on without any debate at all. But even if I strongly disagreed and lost my composure, I can't envision my reaction ever being to ask for his name and address, which just makes no sense, or become distracted trying to figure out his motives. How would doing so get a person any closer to a conclusion about the authenticity of anything? But that's just me....

We are working on a policy of having limited anonymity here. We've had problems from time to time with members using their anonymity to act recklessly or maliciously. It doesn't happen often, but enough that we need to address the situation.
In fact, members that registered in the last month or so can still use use a screen name publicly, but we ask for their real name and keep it private. If they started acting in a way that caused us concerns, we would confirm their identity and probably ask them to use their real name.

One big reason I called N. Steiger out is that what I found alarmed me:
The email address he used is in the name of an actual woman in her 20s, living in the same area he signed up in, based on his IP address. The email address is her complete name, which is an unusual, long name, down to her middle initial. And his AML member name is an abbreviation of her real name.
These are not things you'd expect a sane, honest person would do.
It worries me. And creeps me out.

It is kind if creepy. Bet he isn't the only one one the site. Kid or not, he knows autographs. No denying that.
Me personally I like the brash and bluntness of his posts. He's confident in his opinions. Nothing wrong with that.

He does seem to know his stuff on some graphs, but when he is wrong, which he was with the Harrison Ford discussion, his opinions could lead people into buying a bad item, or tossing a good item.
I can't speak of his knowledge of Floyd or Beatles or Einstein, but his Ford and Asia calls were pretty far from correct, in my opinion.
Blunt is fine in my book, if you are right.

Agree with Pete. N. Steiger or whoever he / she is clearly knows most music items and is spot on.
However, as Pete says he was so far off on the Ford etc that he could not accept that he was wrong even when the item was clearly real he called it a fake and refused to entertain the idea he could be wrong.
I like blunt and I like confidence but we are all wrong sometimes and have to accept we sometimes get it wrong and act with humility.

He definetly is knowledgeable. But to me, when someone lies repeatedly to me, i dont really care about there knowledge any longer. Just my opinion though. Because i no longer can trust the motive behind the knowledge. And i also pretty thoroughly despise arrogance. Arrogance and confidence sometimes run hand in hand, and in alot of posts i am seeing, there is more arrogance than anything. Ala Mike A. that used to post here on this site.
