Keep in mind that when you cast a vote of “1”, you are effectively stating that JLL, Judith and JW Whitten (or some unknown 4th person?) have conspired together to deceive and defraud JLL’s fans. In addition, you are discrediting 750 signed books with a combined value of somewhere around $100,000, against the findings of PSA. I don’t think this is mitigated by the fact that the wording has been changed from “positive” to “feel strongly.” Either way, a “1” represents the highest level of confidence within the context of this poll that these things are true and accurate.

Perhaps so. Whoever was involved, it doesn't seem like they care very much.

But don't forget the responsibility of the publisher, Harper Collins.
It put the books in the stream of commerce.
It had a responsibility to oversee the signing.

Agreed on the change in phrasing not meaning all that much under the circumstances.

By the way, it seems the combined retail value of the books was more like $22,500 (approx. 750 books x approx. $30 per book).

I'd be very happy to pay $50 plus shipping and PayPal fees. If anyone is interested, send me a PM.

If you're serious, I can get hold of at least one and perhaps two JLL "signed" books. Would be happy to sell at retail cost plus shipping.

And, by the way, the book itself is quite a good read.

Yes, I'd like to purchase them. Thank you! I will cover the PayPal fees.

I gotta give you credit, Ballroom... you are putting your money where your mouth is. :-)

If you change your mind Ballroom, I'll buy one of those for retail plus shipping and PayPal fees.
Ballroom,

Those are your words. My 1 vote says that the signed books that I have seen absolutely do not look like they were signed by Jerry Lee Lewis to me.

Ballroom, while I may not agree with your analysis, I have respected your views all along. That said, I have to call BS on this. Basically this is emotional blackmail and an intellectually dishonest way to shut down dissent. "If you think a certain way, you are guilty of slandering JLL, etc." What's next? Threats of lawsuits?

In the history of autographs THOUSANDS of celebrities have used proxy signers. Few, if any, have ever admitted to doing it. They almost always deny it.

Why has this become so personal with JLL? When Reagan, Nixon, Heston, Shepard, Johnny Cash, Jack Lemmon, John Wayne (and on and on) secretarials were identified, no one was screaming that it was a personal attack on the celebrity.

If you want to debate the signature, fine. But you are better than to resort to cheap shutdown tactics.

These are not "shutdown tactics" Steve. It was intended to be in the interest of the members here who are considering voting in this poll. I truly believe that they will later regret their decision, and I don't want that. With regard to the JLL discussions, I feel that more damage is being done internally than any outside entity could ever dream of causing.

Very good point Steve Zarelli.

Mark
