Thought I had seen a thread about this company in the past, but couldn't find it.

I was selling at a show recently and was approached by a dealer who told me he has tons of inventory sitting in a storage unit and if I ever needed anything to give him call.  Said everything is certified and he can give me better prices than anyone else.  Then went on about how he is friends with the guy who started Ace Authenticators (guy who used to work for GAI?), told me his name but I can't remember.  Anyways, he was telling me how the authenticator came to his house to check out over 1,000 items and how he was going to be getting 1,000's of items from Spring Training and how "his guy" was bringing an authenticator with him to certify everything immediately.    Also said this guy is going to be the next big authenticator just needs more time under his belt.  I haven't called the guy, don't think I will.  Just asking because of how this guy sang ACE Authenticators praises and was wondering what people here thought.  If you do not want to say anything on a public board for fear of slander, then feel free to inbox me.

thank you

There was a Long Island show dealer who claimed to have a pipeline into the Yankee Clubhouse. Basically it was a kid or someone that worked there and the players would pay his "tips" in signed stuff. The dealer's stuff all looked good and he only had things in onesies and twosies, so I think it was on the up-and-up.

I bought this Jeter from him about 12 years ago... I'm pretty sure it's good and it was signed FAST... which I always like to see. Thoughts?

Love it....

Rivera is a very generous signer in-person and I've even gotten him TTM through Spring Training several times.  So, his authentic signature is available through non-Steiner sources. However, no one dealer should have a steady stream of them.

Jeter is tougher and my experience is he only signs for kids at the stadium.

I'll tell you how unethical ACE is, I bought an autographed Unitas 8x10 (mud shot photo) that I knew was a fake just to verify and alert Ebay.  The photo paper was a newer high end type by Kodak.  I called Kodak to verify when this particular photo paper came out and it had only been available since 2009.  Johnny Unitas passed away in 2002.  This guy was of course selling a ton of high end items all with ACE authentication.  I alerted Ebay and he was removed and then popped up again the following week.  I then called ACE and talked to Justin Priddy and he denied ever seeing the photo and that some items may slip by him.
Good work. :-)

Wow!  When it comes to deceased players / celebs.  An expert should know what official items were produced after their deaths and be aware of  types of issues that you just discussed Steve.

Dale Earnhardt Sr. still has glossy 8x10's produced of him. These are the same poses issued by the same company.  However, they changed paper in 2002. So, any Dale Sr. autograph on this type of paper is obviously a forgery even before I look at the signature.  There are also certain poses that were released weeks after his death. Obviously, he had no way to sign these. Thankfully, most forgers have no idea about this stuff. So, it traps them over and over.

The bad guys should be trapped and cought by an expert that knows this type of info that works as a part of the authentication of the actual signature.

"Thankfully, most forgers have no idea about this stuff. So, it traps them over and over."

UNfortunately, most people do not know about this stuff, and they get ripped off.  I'll be honest, I have no idea when certain photopapers were made available to the public.

well by now most realize that ACE autograph certification experts has now made the notorious banned list on EBAY.  There have been many comments made about the authentication expertise of Justin Priddy throughout AML from GAI to current.  Not flattering to say the least but how does one go from as he self proclaims;

In 2006 when HBO Real Sports conducted an investigative report on autograph authentication companies, Justin was one of only two national authenticators that correctly identified the fraudulent signatures when they were submitted for review. As a featured columnist in the hobby’s oldest publication, the Sports Collectors Digest, Justin has authored several signature studies, including: Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Cal Ripken Jr., Mark McGwire, Joe Jackson, and Grover Alexander. After leaving his position of Senior Authenticator, shortly after Independence Day in 2007, he briefly continued as a consultant through the start of September attending the last four trade shows the company would attend in the calendar year. He currently serves as the moderator for the GameUsedUniverse.com Autograph Forum, one of the industry’s principle message boards designed toward memorabilia. With the formation of Autograph Certification Experts, LLC (ACE), Justin brings an ecumenical acceptance as one of the industry’s top experts in autographs and is well established as one of the most consistent and accurate authenticators in the autograph industry. Along with his wealth of knowledge Justin also brings one of the largest autograph exemplar libraries to the ACE brand.

to now making the banned list and as such no ACE COA/Cert will make it "very long" on ebay and other places where ACE Certs turn up (e.g. Pristine Auction) are now severely tainted in the minds of collectors?

ACE COAs are accepting by tons of little auctions around the country. Also in some more notable auctions (such as Iconic Memorabilia). I'm curious why you only chose to mention Pristine Auction. I have  bought and sold with them and have always had great experiences. They actually DO NOT accept items from ACE authentication and haven't for something like a year or more.

By the way, in no way am I defending ACE authentication. I actually don't care for them and don't buy things with their authentication (without further review by an authentication company that I trust).

I've noticed just what you've said in the past years: the little regional auctions around the country are where lots of ACE autographs turn up. Horrible stuff, and mostly vintage sports.

That was one I came across and it appeared to me to have an abundance of ACE coas.  It also has another one that is currently been removed (PAAS) from EBAY Listing but has yet to make the banned list.  If there are others that have an abundance do list the auctions.

Unfortunately, those that have them have a dilemma.
