Would the cover of an album turn you off buying a signed lp?

Let's say you wanted to buy a Prince signed lp, but the only album you could find was a, Dirty Mind lp or a Love sexy.

Would you be man enough to buy it and hang it on the wall?

What would stop you from buying an autograph you really want, would it be a footballer in another teams jersey that you don't support.

I think the only thing that could turn me off from a Prince item is if he were nude. I don't have any problem with nudity really, but I just wouldn't want a picture of a nude man. But that's just me.
Oh, but I guess I should clarify. The Love Sexy LP would still be fine by me even though Prince is basically nude, he still isn't showing his snake.

Hi Paul,

This can be very specific and as it is so connected to value, I would say yes, it has an impact and sometimes enough to make me pass. What would stop me? A photo I really dislike, or is of low quality for one. Below is an example. Was only $100 but was printed on very cheap extremely thin computer "photo" paper and was extremely low res. I did not keep it.

Okay...here's an example regarding Michael Jordan. There are Michael Jordan signed items of when, very late in his career, he played for the Washington Wizards. But for me personally, I would only want items relating to Jordan's playing days with the Chicago Bulls. His 6 championships with the Chicago Bulls is what Jordan is known for. He became famous as a Bull, not a Wizard.

And same thing with Joe Montana. Most people probably only want items signed when he was a San Fransisco 49er, not as a Kansas City Chief.

Some guys wouldn't want their favourite race car drivers autographs, if they support one model of car like ford and then switches to something else.

Eric makes some good points.  I know some bloke those two prince lp's would be too much for their manhood. A risqué photo of Madonna, might be too much for a house full of Women.

All true.

So it more important loyalty over a certain team than, etc etc.

Personally I would not buy any signed item which I find offensive or inappropriate. Authentic or not.

Anyhing showing or glorifying real life acts of violence and cruelty to humans or animals would be an absolute no no for me. Hopefully there are not too many LPs with such covers. The Rage Against The Machine burning monk cover is one that I have problems with, even though I know it is depicting a kind of suicide. The LP itself is a classic.

The Butcher Cover? Ah, "real acts" ;) Just kidding :)

I saw the point Paul made I think, a while back, about the Blind Faith album and it did make me think, but only about resale situations.

Eric

Resale and value is a cause not to choose one over the other. These days id have to say items which are harder to sell, eg Vintage rock bands vs modern artist.
