Slabbed Fab Four sells for $16,999!

A 4"x6" postcard signed by John, Paul, George, and Ringo sold on eBay today for
$16,999! That's a confirmed sale price. It was graded Mint 9. Is it worth it?

I bought my piece through Rockaway. It had been looked at by Caiazzo, but not given an loa. I contacted him first to make sure he had seen it. After I purchased I asked if I could purchase an loa from him. He said since he had dealings with Rockaway he would write them up for me at the $150 cost.

Im in agreement with that he didnt offer 3rd party authentication.
He offers appraisals for insurance purposes if he has written a coa oyt already.

I received both a letter of authenticity and a letter of appraisal.

No it was higher. I want to say without looking at in hand though it was the same amount as the item and how much I paid for the letters.

I am wrong. I looked. I paid $800 from Rockaway. I paid $150 to Caiazzo. I got both letter of authenticity and letter of appraisal. The appraisal was for $1200.

Authenticating gets more accurate as time goes on, so an opinion from five years ago doesn't mean as much as an opinion from two days ago from the same respected expert.

RR probably confirms the opinion of respected TPA before they list it for auction.

This piece wouldn't be for me.

It is perfect alright and has all the right paperwork but it just has zero character front and back. It is like a piece of over-produced music or a perfectly computer-enhanced photograph. On top of that it is imprisoned in plastic and would be difficult to display without getting it out of the plastic and losing $x'000 in the process.

I'd rather have a creased photograph, programme, ticket or even album page with signatures dedicated, all over the place and smudged with the Boys' beer, fish n' chip grease or sweat any day. I'd also like to be able to touch it or have it archivally framed and put it on the wall now and again.

I am speaking fron a personal rather than "investment" point of view of course.

I know the Boys visited a local fish n' chip shop when they visited my home town in 1963. Shame I was only one year old at the time.

I know what you're saying about the "character issue". It is a very nice looking piece, but something that is a bit used can have that character we're looking for. When you have that old program or pamphlet dedicated from an event, sometimes the piece comes more alive.
