Authenticity of Rolling Stones Bridges to Babylon lithograph

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I've been looking at picking up a hand signed Rolling Stones Bridges to Babylon lithograph and found one for sale, however, it doesn't appear to be numbered. The others I've seen have a pencil number of the 125 issued in the lower left corner. The seller has checked and there's definitely no number. He thinks it could be an artists proof, extra copies signed in case numbered copies are damaged. Does this sound feasible? I've tried googling this but can't find anything.

Thanks!

Karl

If you read carefully you would have seen where the poster said he got Rogers opinion and that if its not numbered its not real. Yet i saw no where, where the poster said Roger said it wasnt real. Karl can correct that if wrong and state exactly what Roger did say, but i saw no where it was stated that the signatures were fake. Just that if its not numbered its fake.

My personal opinion is that the signatures do look good, although i am no expert on the Stones. The Wood and Richards look okay to me, and those are the only 2 i know even halfway. I do believe that somewhere versions of this print were probably accessible unsigned. And who knows, someone may have asked the Stones to sign it apart from the numbered copies. But that may not be the case. If the item is not numbered than it may very well be not a real piece as Roger said, in the sense that it may not be a real limited edition litho piece produced and signed as part of the litho batch that the Stones officially sells signed. It may be real, it just may not be part of that batch that they officially sell, as it would seem it would have to be numbered to be part of it. Or it could just be fake.

I am curious as to what reply Karl got back on the authenticity of the sigs as far as good or bad as far as the signatures go, disregarding the litho artwork aspect.

Paul,

I think your last statement will mislead some. This piece isnt authenticated by PSA/DNA at all. I just checked Mr. Sloanes item description and that is not listed. You said your piece was authenticated by PSA, but above you imply that the piece in this thread is certed by them and therefore Roger is wrong. But how does your piece being certed by PSA have anything to do with Rogers opinion on a seperate piece. Other than possibly proving that unnumbered copies exist. Are you sure your not Mr. Sloane?? B/c i have alot of questions for him.

Here is Mr. Sloanes item description for this item, and a link to his current music items.

Hi Paul, personally I don't think you're Mr Sloane, by your spelling I would guess you're American and not British. I'd be interested to see pics of your 2 lithos if you don't mind?

I don't know how to post pics on this site yet.send me your email or call me 2016660169 and I'll email you pictures and talk about it.

Hi Paul, if you want to include a photo, in the reply box, there are little buttons above it.  The 2nd button in allows you to add an image (try to post clear photos).  I'm sure the others would like to see them as well, if you wouldn't mind.

Thanks.

Sorry for the language, just trying to help here, anyway I'm looking for the boxes to attach photos, don't see them ,I'm on a iPad now ,maybe I should go to the laptop, the options might appear there.
You can't upload photos using an iPad yet, sorry. The editing toolbar everyone else has doesn't appear on iPads. Drives me nuts sometimes.

Okay guys,

I did some searching and did indeed find this item under Mr. Sloane's item on ebay. Based on that alone, in my opinion i wouldnt touch it. Their are threads on this site about Mr. Sloane, as he has had for sale some  forgeries in the past. He seems to have a mixed bag all in all The signatures on this piece look good to me, but based on what i have seen him sale before, i wouldn't touch it, no matter how good it looks.

Here is a thread about him:

http://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/mr-sloane-on-ebay

Here is just one reply on that thread i posted a link too. The forgeries i have seen from him are better than average, but i still believe they were forgeries.

Hi Chris,

Here is my 2 cents. A bit late to the party but my friend told me you had posted this and I have some important info to add. And this info is factual.

I know for a fact that mr.sloane is not truthful in his descriptions on his contemporary signed items. He states that he got them signed himself and gives dates and times. When the truth is that he bought them off of ebay. So you say, "well, I can cross check that to see if he did do just that". Well, I have done this and figured out that he waits 90 days till the action info has been pulled so you are not able to cross check his posts to his purchases. So he is waiting 90 days before he posts, unless it is a private auction and with those auctions you are not able to get any info. So that gets posted right away with the claim he got them himself.

Pretty smart and the way I found out was that he had posted something that I had my eye on from last year. It was a singed Depeche Mode photo. Item number 221072577163 but an other seller had it posted. It was a seller that goes by the Ebay name "spadon2637" I went into "spardon2637" feedback and saw that mr.sloane had bought 7 items in a private auction. I know for a fact that mr.sloane bought up the remaing Depeche Mode photos that spardon2637 had left. You see spardon2637 is know as Dennis Robbins from the UK. I had bought a signed Depeche Mode photo from Dennis and told him I would be back for the others.

Well, I found the other photo posted again but from another dealer "mr sloane", no big deal but when I read the listing description I got pissed off, mr.sloane claimed he got them signed himself.

"PLEASE NOTE: ALL SIGNATURES ARE THE REAL DEAL. IT'S SIMPLE - I DO NOT SELL SIGNATURES IF I DID NOT SEE PEN PUT TO PAPER. I WAS THERE!! I AM DOWNSIZING MY OWN COLLECTION AND, WITH A HEAVY HEART, CERTAIN ITEMS MUST BE SOLD TO PAY FOR EXPENSES - THIS IS ONE".

What "BULL", this guy is claiming this to help sell his purchases. It's one thing to buy and sell up. That's fine, but to lie about the item. That's not cool.

Look mr.sloane has over 15,000 in positive feedbacks. But it is a hit or miss with his inventory. Some is good and some is not. But I would not leave feedback till you've had things authenticated with Roger Epperson or PSA. So incase something is bad you can return it, because he will not want the negative feedback.

I've contacted mr.sloane and told him I was on to what he is doing, twice. But he did not respond back. I've contacted Ebay and filed a case against him under this issue of " false information" Ebay is building a case.

Look these two items up, and you can see what I mean:
Ebay Item number: 230830364246
Ebay Item number: 200772178396

Hope this helps, EVERYONE .........................

Yeah, that's my biggest problem with Sloane - I've noticed he pretty much lies freely about some of his listings to make them more attractive.  He obviously has plenty of good items.  I've also seen him sell a slew of crap.  He needs to be more honest about where he gets his stuff if he doesn't want to end up in big trouble at some point.

Thanks for your input Carl. To clarify a couple of points you raised, I didn't ask Roger to give a quick opinion on the authenticity of the signatures, I just asked asked if he was aware of the unnumbered lithos. His response was 'there has to be a # on it or it is fake', I then emailed him the seller's response about 'artists proofs' but he didn't reply. Perhaps because I didn't pony up $15, I wasn't asking for him to look at the item, just a quick yes or no as he's had one for sale before, and I'd already paid for his opinion on several eBay items that week. And yes you're right, the seller is Mr Sloane, he accepted an off eBay offer of 2k which I thought was reasonable but I backed off when I found out it wasn't numbered.

Can I just say its funny when someone says it "passed with flying colors" No it didnt. It either passed or it didnt. Such Puffery is nonsense. Im sure psa didnt personally call him and say hey we just want to say this is the most authentic Rolling STones we have ever seen absolutely perfect well done.
