Hi all.
Thoughts on this signed Beatles LP up for auction soon?
Attached is a photo and link to the full article.

I can barely see about 60% that. I imagine someone will post a better scan. No COA? Just a letter or provenance and an insurance receipt? Is the estimate reasonable - is the contrast/condition taken into account?
I could be wrong but the signatures do not appear to be genuine. They look to have been signed by Neil Aspinall. Neil’s signed Lp’s fooled many auction houses which sold them as genuine back in the 1980’s . Many people bought these signed LPs etc only to find out later that they were in fact signed by Neil.
+1 The George etc. but I can't really see them.
Yes agree the signatures are tough to see. The tail of the J in John intersecting with the h is a classic Neil characteristic and also the long tails on the g’s in George. Paul also looks like Neil’s work and the Ringo is the hardest to see but if the other 3 are indeed done by Neil it’s reasonable to assume Ringo is as well. Odd that he signed the front cover.
No Thanks...
The signatures are tough to see for sure. I don’t think they’re by Neil though. The George signature doesn’t look like his proxy signature at all. I think they’re just bad forgeries.
According to the article there is a Christies insurance valuation from 1989. It would be interesting to see what that entails .
Yes it would. I wonder if it was offered to Christie’s or any other auction house.
Bad as the photo is, the autographs are clearly not real. A genuinely signed Help album in good condition would be worth six-figures BTW. The McCartney looks damaged unless that's a reflection. If it were real it would be worth maybe 25% of a real one.
BTW, only 2 signed Parlophone Help albums, and 2 US signed Help albums are known.
no chance
I sent the auction house a polite note indicating the autographs on the Lp were not genuine. I mentioned the item will likely generate lots of interest from the news story so they should be 100% sure what they are selling. I suggested a quick opinion from Roger Epperson might be quite valuable. Not sure if this will do any good but it was worth the try.
