Offered for sale by UK auction house Stacey's Auctioneers is this signed photo. The auction indicates it comes with full provenance? I think the estimate is £2000 to £3000. I think it looks like a Mal set?

I would say that you are spot on. It has the hallmarks of a Mal Evans set.

I always thought Mal did a half-decent job of it. These are awful.

Yet another UK auction house apparently not attempting to verify anything. This auctioneer is a member of the "Society of Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers". I wonder whether I should write to them and/or other relevant professional bodies about this issue. Has anyone already done this?

As a start, I just sent this message to the auctioneer:

Dear Sir/Madam

These are not real. All the signatures are signed by the same person, probably Mal Evans. They are probably what are called "secretarials" rather than fakes created for commercial gain and the seller is probably unaware that they are not real. I am sorry for the seller but potential buyers need to be protected.

You can confirm the above by using Google images. Richard Davie at International Autograph Auctions Ltd. could also confirm it.

I would suggest that you try to do at least some verification of larger value autographs in the future.

Best regards

.....

Good job!

Well done. Great letter it will be interesting to see if that will spur them to action. I'm amazed that so many of these reputable auction houses put this crap up for sale as genuine autographs. You would think they would at least do a cursory validation. Perhaps if we keep writing letters that will get the hint.

Plus One !!!! Pug

Mal Evans Beatles autographs...

Ringo is the closest, mostly due to nailing the angle, the proportions, and the geometry, Lennon and McCartney are obviously forged, but that Harrison just stands up and screams, as should anybody who ever bought one of these for a healthy chunk of change.

Super ffffff fale!!

I would agree,It looks like a Mal Evans set.
