I think you are right about eBay and big sellers, they literally confirmed as much in an e-mail to me years ago. I've seen all kinds of fakes, even the signed art cards that come with CDs complete with fake barcode stickers.

People get blinded when they see a deal that's too good to be true. Sure when an item is just released you can find someone willing to make a deal for a quick turnaround. But if a year later you still find Elton John going for $50 or best offer you should think twice (plus he only had the art cards on the website and if you're lucky enough to meet him then no one in their right mind is bringing a cassette).

signed copy for sale from the Tattered Cover indie book chain in Colorado....$500!

Surrender by Bono SIGNED FIRST EDITION | Facebook

(but then they want $525 for the Dolly Parton Songteller too: Dolly Parton, Songteller by Dolly Parton | Facebook )

I showed up at the main Tattered Cover location in Denver the minute they opened on release day.  They said they didn’t get any.  Both independent book stores in Colorado are scalping them.

I gotta feel like this kinda crap from them and Boulder Books should be reported to the publisher. It’s one thing to scalp on eBay as a reseller, but for a bookstore to do it when they are lucky enough for the author to send copies expecting them to be sold at retail to fans is just wrong IMO.

I sent a tweet to Penguin House and tagged U2 and each of the CO independent book sellers separately.   Screenshots with the email from Boulder Books and Tattered Cover FB listing.  Probably won’t do much good but maybe it’ll get noticed.

Eh. In cases like this these days I lean towards the fact that Covid hurt a lot of small businesses badly and they have to deal with Amazon selling stuff at a loss just to stay alive. Don’t give them more headaches than they need

So for anyone that was able to get the signed book online from Strand the other night, my order on their site doesn't show any movement but I see that I have a package coming from them on my USPS account.

Barnes and noble just called. My copy I called about to reserve early is reserved and available to pick up hope some of you called. There are no additional copies available to purchase

you called the main number?  the person I spoke to wouldn't let me reserve a copy!

gotcha... thanks!

Are you saying B&N is taking reservations on signed copies of Surrender?  This is unheard of with my experience with the store.  Just saying.

Hm. Now that u say it like that I’d rather not say I know how some people can be on this forum. I actually just happened to check in and got fortunate.
