Thanks Mark! Do anyone have an opinion on how much it could be worth? As I said, I paid totally $350 for it. ($250 to the seller, the rest as shipping and customs)
I have absolutely no plans to sell it, but just curious as it is quite old. And very rare to see any Bruce-items from that period on ebay or on other more serious auctions.
My guess is that it is worth basically what you paid for it. Bruce cut signatures typically go for between the 150 to 250 range. 250 being the higher end nicer cut signatures which yours certainly is. And while its an older and more desirable signature, i doubt it would ever bring more than 250. Signed 11 by 14s realistically go for around the 350 range. And LPs realistically go for around the 4 to 5 mark if in very good condition. Their are many many places that place much higher price tags on such items, and some get those prices, but with a little research and looking around, you can find plenty of authentic pieces in the ranges listed above. RR auction and the other major auction houses typically get top dollar for their items, and to be honest, alot of times they get way over top dollar. But that is to be suspected in such a worldwide auction setting with major players involved.
Yours is a great early signature and i would place its value between 200 and 275 dollars. Somewhere in that bracket, and probably between 250 adn 275 range to narrow it even further. Unfortunately no matter how nice of a cut signature, they dont command anywhere near the larger signed pieces. And 250 to 275 is about all they are worth in my opinion for just a cut. Now if it had a line from a song or something else on it, then it could obviously go for much more.
But i think you got a nice deal for a nice Bruce piece, and basically paid what its value is. But i do realize value is a subjective thing and certain people are willing to pay for certain items, despite their textbook value.
Thank you very much for a long and very insightful post Carl. Very interesting to read your thoughts about this. I agree with you, and the prices you mention is quite spot on I think. But as you say, sometimes, in certain auction-houses (and sometimes ebay too), some pieces can go for much higher prices than this.
I`m in this as a collector, so the money-value isn`t the most important to me. As a dedicated Bruce-fan, it`s his and E Street Band items that is interesting. But it`s very interesting to learn about the value of it, and the processes that determine what it`s worth.
But as a fan, they become more or less priceless, I`m not in it for the profit. They are nice pieces that fit perfectly in together with my other collectibles. My greatest wish though is a couple of totally free ones, obtained in person. He`s coming to Norway in a month, and tickets to concerts are bought.
Hi Trond
A card will always sell for less than an Lp or even Cd. I would try to frame it with another "hard to find" Bruce collectible , for example one of his blue and white custom guitar pick he uses, stuff like that... The value will then increase a bit ...
I got the 2 other parts of the paper-sheet this Bruce-autograph was signed on today. The other parts are signed by Flo & Eddie of the Turtles. Took all 3 parts out of the frames and took a photo of how it looked originally.
Flo & Eddie performed together with Bruce on "Hungry Heart" on the River Tour in 1980.
