I was the highest bidder on this piece from last week's RR Auction. Someone told me that the signature "might" not be authentic. I want to get your opinions on it.

Thanks!

That is quite different than what I am use to seeing. I'm no expert but would be suspicious of this one.

Thanks! I'm going to wait to get more opinions. I'm thinking about having PSA/DNA do a quick opinion on it, even though they do business with RR. If it's not real, I'm surprised RR consigned it.

It may be possible it is VERY rushed. Again, there are many others on this site that know more about Mr. Reeve's signature. Just, if it wasn't for the RR COA, I wouldn't give this one a second look. But, that's just me.

I agree. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I'd say wait for Bradford to answer definitively, but to me this has plenty of Reeve's tells. Probably a transition signature when he was switching from his fuller 1970's style to his 1980's style, still nearly every letter but far more rushed. The Ch is all him, the tph is all him, and the double e is all him.

Thanks! Hopefully, Bradford can respond to this post when he has time.

Post a comment on Bradford's profile with a link.

What's the link to Bradford's profile?

I have a numerous amount of Reeve signatures and even those that are rushed I can find another example somewhere else.

This particular signature can't be found anywhere in my exemplar file. There might be a couple of Reeve traits but there are certainly more obscurities than consistencies.

To put it mildly, there is a lot more wrong with this autograph than there is right. The ribbon on the T for one is highly atypical. Not to mention the fact that his fan rushed signature is rarely one that's full.

One other thing to point out that is highly irregular is the R in Christopner. I've never seen him tail it down like that. 99.9% of the time it always curves up.

Thanks. My questions is now, how should I follow up with RR Auction? I won the item, but I haven't paid for it, yet.

I would send off for a quick opinion from PSA and see if it comes back "not likely genuine". If it comes back as such, then you might have a chance to back out. They really don't care who I am.

They could also say that it is "likely genuine". After all, this is my opinion. All I can say for myself that I wouldn't own this item nor would I sell it unless I saw Reeve sign it personally.
