I was the highest bidder on this piece from last week's RR Auction. Someone told me that the signature "might" not be authentic. I want to get your opinions on it.

Thanks!

Here is a CH that definitely resembles the HEART symbol that you are referring to, Pete. This is one of his very first vintage signatures. It's hard for me to like the signature as a whole, but if you are basing it on the vintage photo along with a few traditional characteristics, then I can understand where you are coming from.

It's already pre-certified by PSA, and I agree with them 100%.

PSA also sold an LOA that determined this flawed signature to be authentic. Now I love Steve Grad and he is one of the better people out there alongside of Chuka that knows his Star Wars. However, his ability to authenticate Reeve (at least in this case) makes their judgment questionable especially when/if they are willing say it's 100% authentic.

FB, you are in a sticky spot. I wish the outlook on this signed photo was more optimistic. Perhaps if you explain your situation to RR they may let you off the hook. But, I also know that their terms state by bidding you are entering in a legally binding contract. I'm rooting for you!

Hey Joe, Hi FB

Yes, I am hoping quick/clear communication, often underrated, will save the day. If FB is a regular bidder there and can speak to someone he knows, perhaps better still.

Off topic....you know, I may have to draw up a list of "Bidders Terms" ;)

Is it a 2 way street?

Eric

Eric, it is better to try to work this out with RR directly if possible.

Hi Joe,

that is what I am saying - quick clear phone call asap.

Eric

I just sent the signature to two places for quick verifications. I will let you know what they say by tomorrow.

Pete, if it wasn't through RR Auction and PSA pre-certified, I probably would have avoided it. Joe, thanks for the optimism.

It's just playing the waiting game.

I have bought and sold Comic related autographs for as long as I have done Star Wars autographs. I have seen hundreds if not thousands of bad Christopher Reeve autographs. I have never once seen a forger get the Chr of a vintage signature right on, nor have I seen a forger nail the Ree right.

Someone getting a photo signed on the set of a film in progress.....a photo they likely took and had developed themself.....it's not like getting a signature thru the mail or at a show.

I am actually kind of shocked that this isn't as plainly visible to more people.

The only complaint I can come up with on this piece is that Kidder signed over Chris' face and the 7x5 size. Otherwise it is a great piece.

Pete....when I said "their" I was referring to PSA. Not you. Please don't tell me you would agree with Grad on the script they authenticated.

After looking through some more exemplars, I did find a Reeve autograph with the ribbon T - this one comes from a pre-print. I don't know if I've seen another like this other than the one from R&R

The script is garbage.

But the Chr and the R tilted e, straight e ....is without a doubt Reeve 1978-1980.

now that every forger reading this has this info, you can forget this piece of info.....because now they will all make sure they copy this.
