3/15/2012 Chose to update the thread with the other two discussed in comments below that were also new additions to the EBAY banned list. More nominations in the works.
I also confirmed with EBAY spokesman some time ago that the ACE which appears on the official banned list as ACE Authentic is actually ACE (Autograph Certification Experts run by Justin priddy) while Rare and Signed is a UK provider. The official EBAY banned list has not been updated to correct the ACE listing thus any presentation that doesn't show ACE Authentic has been modified by the poster. There is more information contained in the comments below regarding the newest additions to the "prestigious" banned list. Unfortunately, whatever percentage of items that are indeed authentic have been significantly tainted. (there is a presumption that there are authentic items).
There is also a Moderated Blog for CSC & ACE but mostly focused on CSC that was created after this thread. A moderated blog means that any comments "added" would have to be approved by the owner of that thread before they become visible. Unfortunately, there is no way of telling what type of threads they are before posting. This thread is not moderated nor do I see a reason to have a need to moderate as comments that go to far astray can be removed. There are however a copy of additional CSC illustrations depicted from ebay. (end 3-15)
CSC Info borrowed from the Zipper as I wondered how we missed CSC Collectibles having it's very own thread...
Zipper recommends you avoid items with the CSC Collectibles Certificate of Authenticity / hologram. These worthless COAs appear on the same junky fakes we've seen with the equally worthless Nicholas Burczyk COAsZipper suspects it won't be long before this rubbish COA is banned from eBay as well. Sadly, the criminals who produce these fakes will just produce another phony-baloney authentication COA to slap on the bilge they pump out. It's like COA "whack-a-mole."
One thing to note about these mass-produced fakes is some of them are on 5x7 photos. Now, if you paid big bucks for a private signing with Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio or Ted Williams, would you waste it by having them sign offsize and unpopular 5x7 photos? Of course not. The forgers are so cheap, they probably use 5x7s to reduce costs.
and Cyrkin had noted in another thread on PAAS that CSC's were being removed from EBAY even if they had yet to make the banned list. The following commentary seems to support this;
rt6junkie said, "i purchased a Mickey Mantle/ Ted Williams signed photo at a bid aution for $75.00..I advertised it on ebay and immediately it was pulled and i was put on notice NEVER to try to sell this again or I would be booted off ebay..I honestly did not know it was fake. Once again ebay acted Too Strong"
How many of these do you have of thse Board Certified Court Qualified Forensice Document types?

I don't think we missed it having its own thread. It's not an independent authenticator, just one of the many fraudulent seller COAs. But eBay has been adding to the list of banned COAs more and more of these. Autographs America was added at the same time as CSC Collectibles and ACE (which is a supposedly independent authenticator but authenticates something like 99% forgeries).
steve, just checked they are not "officially" on the banned list, yet anways.
Perhaps still in the "covert" cleaner ops phase...
we have lots of separate threads on the "non-traditional independent TPAs" so now they have their own home. It beats having to find all the independent comments scattered all over the place.
DB,
It's not covert. The published banned list can take a month or more to update. CSC is not even a non-traditional TPA. They are, or were, a company that issued their own COAs for things they sold...and perphaps forged themselves.
Steve, it's a black ops. How many bythebay or autograph store coas have you seen? There is a good reason and they aren't on the banned list either.
that is my definition of a non-traditional TPA. There are lots of these companies... the 2 previously mentioned are one of those. R&R in some cases also qualifies when it's an R&R only COA.
DB, a company that issues COAs for what they sell is by definition not a third party authenticator. A third party authenticator is, by definition, neither the buyer or the seller. They're a supposed independent third party.
Right. Most legit companies offer their own "COA." Sometimes it is a cert, other times it is the copy of the sales receipt... whatever. RR, Autograph World, Richard Simon, Jim Stinson, etc etc.
I see it as a distinction without a difference. If one of the "store" COAs was 99% bad, it would get banned just like a "TPA" cert that was 99% bad.
There are pure TPAs (and by my definition - that is anyone who is opining on an item that they are not "legally employed" by the frim selling them).
We have the Sellers/Companies - who essentially place their own coa and theirs and only their opinions on them.
Then we have the hybrid companies who have authenticators that work for them but are also listed as authenticators for Pure TPAs.
or zipper sometimes it is this mystical pre-cert and as we know when it's certain TPAs it doesn't quite work in a timely manner to everone's chagrin.!
DB , It's cloudy as there are very few authenticators that do not sell autographs themselves. If they put the stickers on their own items then they are First Party Authenticators, not Third.
Right u are Eli. I would consider that scenario to fall in under the 2nd paragraph where the seller (in this case an authenticator) is selling their own item (and it wouldn't matter where it is being sold).
DB, there are no "black ops" in autographs. It's eBay quality control, not the X-Files. They may do a search for bythebay or autograph store COAs and then have them checked out, but until the COA is on their banned list--whether or not it's published externally on it--they do not do blanket removals, except in rare instances.
Well then, I stand corrected...but I think they may now have to rename them "light gray ops."
Glad you were too old for Seal Team Six.
