Hello All,

Yes, now. I know. Heck of a time to shop. Something nice, unusual, neat (for Bowie), with some handwriting too, and on something interesting - not a magazine clipping or scrap or unknown 2nd gen photo. No bank breaking either. I came up with this ticket and the 1993 promotional flat for the album he'd just finished to go with it for display. It is right smack in the middle of his career - no more characters, finding himself, after the genius of the 70's, the awful flops of the later 80's and right as he is starting work on Outside with Eno and all that would came after in the 90's and beyond. He had just married Iman, and on this album Bowie worked with Mick Ronson of the Spiders for perhaps the last time, Reeves Gabrels for the first time, and Mike Garson (also of the Spiders) who played with him until 2006 (as well as with the Pumpkins). This album debuted at No. 1 and was his last such debut until 2013. The video EP Black Tie/White Noise was shot 2 days earlier, on May 8th.

This Tonight Show performance was May 10th, 1993 and there is a clip of the song Bowie performed that you can see here: Bowie on The Tonight Show May 10, 1993 performing Nite Flights

David Bowie signed "best wishes Bowie'93" Tonight Show ticket May 10, 1993 paired with an original Black Tie/White Noise 1993 promotional 12" flat. Shown to scale.

Gregory,

Maybe a dedicated post with pics and price?

Eric

Hello,

Having just suffered nearly fatal "secretarial stroke" myself, I shan't comment much. The date seems a bit odd as does the form of the top of the "B". Other elements appear perhaps reasonable. I'd seek an opinion from a trusted Rock & Roll Expert. I am very wary of these signatures right now.

Eric

That does not seem blatantly bad at all. There are some very poor forgeries floating about. This handwriting appears good and that is usually not the case with poor attempts. I still say consult an expert.

One thing I have learned is that his genuine signature is not as clean as one might expect, and has potential for much variation, even over just a few years.

Eric

Was your graph expensive Eric?

Hi Paul,

That ticket was $500 or $520(?) shipped, with certification. It was much too much, but I liked this particular item, and I was rather ticked at the secretarial debacle and the resulting emptiness. Being made whole will NOT fill the hole! I passed on several stills and sigs etc. in this range $400-$600. None were pleasing at all, and I wanted something unusual and with a bit of sentiment or writing which seems uncommon. I was seeing b/w (or color) unmarked copy photographs, or undated signatures, or no additional handwriting, or a bad example/bad placement - often a combination. Many things just unreal, apart from the prices. This ticket makes a nice presentation with the flat - the ticket color and his skin color as represented in the cover art play well together. I like some of the promo 8x10's from this album, they are rather smart b/w with a vintage radio feel, but this large slab would devour such an image whole. I enjoy pairing signed items with imagery - often a flat or promo still, sometimes something candid or unique. This worked out nicely I think.

Was my graph expensive?

Could you get your money back if you return the item?
I know the psa cert causes issue's.

Yes, there is a return policy and the cert does nothing for me. It was not a requirement or criterion at all. Most of what I was looking at was raw. This one happened to be slabbed. I still got the opinions I wanted, despite the plastic. In the end, I had to be happy and satisfied with the $ spent and the example secured.

Not sure I follow you precisely about the cert - restate? I bought the autograph, not the plastic. If I, and/or someone I trust, does not like an item and has cause/reason, it doesn't matter to me what the cert is. I mention the name again - Gleason. Cert is not going to help a secretarial forever.

Eric

I like the piece Eric! I was following it on eBay and poof! It was gone. I am glad you got it. It is a nice piece!

Update Oct 2016

I'd look for these shapes and probably pursue them!

Eric

This is suppose to be a genuine David Bowie autograph from 1976. Looks a little different from the secretariats.

Thanks Bjarne. That "B" has an interesting construction in this context. Once again - much variation but some things appear to remain.

Eric

Don't know if it helps but here's my LP signed in 81 (with some handwriting).
