Do you mean ink from his letter got on to the page he was sending you?  Or did he place his paper on top of your autographed page and then it bled through?  In either case I am afraid it is not good and fading typically is where everything exposed to light fades so is generally even.  A lighter ink will fade in time but doubt I would want to wait around for it.  I think I would contact the seller and complain and at least get a partial refund.  Depending on the type of paper and if photograph etc.   There are things to remove ink from photographs but I personally dislike this practice.  Sometimes when things like this happen and it is an important autograph you just have to learn to love it.  I ended up with a very paperclip imprint in a photograph because the seller put a note on it.  Sometimes people just do not think.

thanks for reply Scott ; - sorry for being unclear but when I get  upset my english goes all over the place.  Its actually the imprint  from part of the note he wrote to me which has gone through 3 pages of the booklet  and one of the pages has 2 autographs on it; altho not the most important autographs. Its not ink but you can see clearly the writing on it; a bit I imagine like your paperclip imprint

However, I doubt that the seller will do a partial refund so I will probably have to live with it because if you do get as far as opening a case, the seller can chose to refuse a partial refund and then you have to send it back as I discovered with some non autographed damaged goods  and otherwise its a nice item

 As you say ; people just don't think!!!!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I should have gotten that from your title.  I now understand what you mean.  i wish I could tell you my paperclip imprint has faded but it hasn't lol.  I should be grateful the paperclip didn't leave a rust mark too!  I did not realize about partial refunds that you had to return the item.  I am sorry this happened to you I suppose it is one of the pitfalls we have in this hobby.  The trouble with something like this is that even though it is not that noticeable it still sticks out like sore thumb to me!  I got another Maudie Prickett btw.

that's the trouble exactly ; - it sticks out like a thumb!!! The problem is that its a gamble if you take it to resolution centre and the seller refuses a partial refund because then you will have to return it for a full refund because the seller has the right to refuse a partial refund.  I'll have to think what to do. I need a strategy and a diversion so if you post a picture of new Maudie up I can try and stop worrying about what to do next and look at that instead!!! regards

Yeah, I agree. I've done that once too 20-years ago- and the mark that went through the paper is still on the autograph item!  

I have some eBay tips for everyone:

If you MUST get eBay involved by phone, make sure you get a TRUST & SAFETY SPECIALIST involved right off the bat or you will waste 20-30 minutes explaining everything to a moron regular eBay employee who doesn't know ANY of eBay's rules and you'll be transferred around until to get to a TRUST & SAFETY SPECIALIST who does know eBay's Rules!  Otherwise you might get convinced by an eBay lying idiot that you are WRONG, when in fact you were RIGHT (they've tried to do that to me more than once)!

Trust me on this, I report sellers who seriously overcharge for SHIPPING & HANDLING fees in the sports card area which they do on a regular basis. The other day I won four single baseball cards (different items) where the total weight of the package would be under 3-ounces ($1.93 eBay postage) and the only listed S&H fee was $3.50. According to eBay's current S&H rules: that's the MOST the seller can charge for combined shipping. The seller tried to charge me $14.00 S&H!!! When I told him about eBay's rules, he lowered it to $6.00 (still VERY excessive). So I contacted eBay and the seller was FORCED to charge only $3.50 S&H and they were warned by eBay if they ever try this again they will be suspended. I was told my understanding of their Reasonable Shipping fee rules is absolutely correct and this was over the tenth time I had to do this in a few months (I buy a LOT of cards to donate to hospitalized children).

These fairly new eBay S&H rules state that you can only charge for postage- which is only $2.25 for up to 6-ounces (99.9% of sports card packages weigh less than that) using eBay PRINT SHIPPING LABEL service- which all sellers should be using, it's by far the least expensive ANYWHERE! In the sports cards area the only supplies that are needed are a bubble envelope (.25 cents each right on eBay in lots of 25 or more, w/FREE shipping for paper or poly) and top-loader cases which are .05 cents each. If the seller uses used cases or put irremovable tape on the loaders- they CANNOT charge for them.

< So in any case sports card sellers cannot charge you more than $3.00 TOTAL anymore no matter how many items you win! >>>>>

Many long time BIG full-time sports card sellers will try to overcharge you (they think they are entitled to charge YOU for THEIR eBay/PayPal fees in S&H which is a BIG rule to break on eBay!) SO REPORT THEM and they will be FORCED to stop charging extra fees for each additional card you win. Plus many sellers have HIDDEN EXTRA ITEM FEES which you only find out about AFTER the auctions are won. THEY CANNOT DO THIS!

Do not be afraid to leave negative feedback either if they get nasty when you tell them they are Overcharging for S&H. You NEED to tell them this BEFORE you call eBay. Some (few) sellers may thank you saying they didn't know about the newer rules and they will change their fees to follow eBay's S&H rules.

Hi Michelle

I am sure the imprint will not flatten out of its own accord.

This may sound blatently obvious but why don't you try rubbing the affected pages gently from behind with a soft, blunt object? With a canvas you can get creases out by moisturising - but I wouldn't recommend this with paper!

Personally I'm not too keen on removing all signs of age from vintage items - makes them about as attractive as an 80 year old with extensive plastic surgery - but that woudn't apply in this case.

Hi Michelle

I guess it doesn't really have to be that soft provided it doesn't take the surface off. Something like a wooden spoon or a rounded part of a plastic object like a comb or brush. Maybe a very soft pencil eraser or a harder one wrapped in a cloth might also do the trick. I don't think the whole impression will come out but perhaps it will help a bit.
