Do Most Great Collections Sell Shortly After Completion?

I'm looking at one of my collections, not graphs obviously, thinking "...my god...what am I doing, really?...?...And why" I am realizing there is far more to having and handling parts of my liner than photographs, postcards and so on. You can spend more on some cards and photos than for smaller parts of the ship in some cases. I am getting very tempted. "Christina! Bring me the AXE!" - or "Careful with That Axe, Eugene!"...I need pruning shears. ;) Over 20 years daily searching, now where I wanted it and I am thinking of selling much - perhaps. This collection was inclusive first 1907-1934, then 1907-1919, then 1906-1914, now 1906-1907. At one point I even had dried fruit and flowers from a 1934 lunch... It's great but...very ephemeral. If I am to do a book it better be soon.

Do you find collections get sold soon after completion? Have you sold? Did you regret? Did you keep the top 15%? Would you never consider this?

Does anyone have any serious regrets about a certain set etc?

Thoughts on selling collections once completed? Observations?

I should mention, I am not really thinking of selling but am interested in the experiences/observations of others.

The key word of your question is "shortly". I would assume few work to complete a specific project just to sell it quickly. Although I view collections as an ever growing, ever evolving pursuit. There's always another mountain to climb. Sometimes selling leads to the start of a new objective.

As with all items of value there is a time to buy and a time to sell.

Not from my personal perspective.  I collect items in known numbered sets, and have completed them, sometimes twice, and still have them all.  They are solid investments, aside from the general joy I get from collecting them.  I will probably sell off my duplicate collections at some point, but my master collections will take some serious prying from my hands.
