Eric- I happened to see the one you've purchased when it was originally posted for sale. My initial impression was what you seem to now be moving toward....not good. Doesn't help matters with the extremely fuzzy low quality of the supplied scan.

I was curious so I did a little digging....here's one that RRauction offered several years back. For what it's worth, it had the customary PSA pre-certification. This just looks a lot more fluid and natural....at least to my eye.
This is also a good example of what David was getting at regarding vintage photos with their sharp first gen. detail. Usually sharp quality as opposed to what is often found with low definition (copy of a copy, of a copy etc.) later restrikes.
I'm on the fence as well but his autograph has differed so much over the years and even more so recently with his health matters. Gut says no, head says maybe!
