Edie Sedgwick

This card claimed to have been signed by Andy Warhol muse Edie Sedgwick recently sold on eBay for $300. In my opinion, it clearly isn’t authentic. Authentic exemplars of her signature are rare and forgeries even rarer. Her original AFTRA card sold through RR Auction for $1,789.

This is an antique original great birthday card signed by Andy Warhol star Edie Sedgwick. It is rare to find her signature anywhere. So this is an opportunity to have a vintage piece of Hollywood history.

My uncle often prided himself on finding the most elusive and scarce photos and items of the old stars that he could. So this is truly a rare opportunity to get a nice card of Edie's signed.

Here’s the card that sold on eBay followed by the signature portion of a card she wrote to Warhol in 1968. I'm surprised that the birthday card actually sold.

I thought so too - pastiche with the heart and smiley but differences there as well.

The other card had psychiatric hospital address on it. She was on heavy medication at that time, so her handwriting could have changed a bit.

The authentic card shows a correct formation of the "D", and does not appear slowly signed. It looks like the forger of the signature in question tried to copy that "D", but misinterpreted its formation.

Misinterpreted the size relations as well - look at the height of the "d". The Valentine's card was executed so slowly. Both cards have more in common with each than the exemplars posted.

It shows the same issues as the signed birthday card, is from the same seller, and obviously appears to be from the same forger.

Want to ask you where did you find two last examples of her signature (on blue and yellow paper)? Could you please give me a source?

The one on blue paper was sold on eBay and then through RR Auction. The one on yellow paper is from my collection. It was purchased together with several other Warhol-related autographs.

Both were sold as part of a lot. The one I purchased also included Lou Reed, Nico, and several others.
