I received the email from donleys, John and quickly reviewed the catalog. For being up in the middle of nowhere in Illinois, Donleys manages to attract some nice consignments.
Did you acquire anything from their first auction with this consignor? I was active but only walked way with a couple of Bg posters.
I've never heard of Donley's Auctions. Does anyone know who is supplying them with all their stuff? Does it come with PSA, JSA, or Epperson LOAs?
And are there reserves on the lots?
thx
Bruce,
I regularly participate in Donley auctions and this one is definitely out of character. They have incredible antique phonograph auctions, among the very best in the country, but they are in the middle of nowhere in Union IL. So, I called Laura over there and inquired.
This is their second auction from the same source, Jerry Garcia's office staff cleaning out his belongings. I asked how the staff decided on Donleys and she said "that is a good question!". Anyway, they keep getting more personal belongings everyday and she idicated Bob Weir's passport was the latest to arrive.
Dan
there stuff is coming directly from the bands employes.
everything in there came and consigned directly from the employes of the dead and other bands
the stanley mouse stuff is supplied directly from stanleys personal collection
I belive most lots are just one bid and it sells
they did a similar one 3 years ago same people consigned
dennis McNally is the publicist for the auction.if u don't know who he is google him.
Why do you find that interesting, John? I would be shocked if most things sold for one bid
he askes about a reserve so that's what I answerd say that basically one bid will win it on most stuff wich means there aren't really rearves on most stuff
Here is the catalog with hammer prices from the April 2015 initial auction. To John’s point, there were a lot of passed lots suggesting fairly high opening bids.

Union, Illinois-based auction house Donley Auctions will put hundreds of Grateful Dead-related lots up for auction on Saturday, September 8 at 10 a.m. CT. The auction includes items from the collections of former Grateful Dead employees Annette Flowers, Sue Stephens and Len Dell’Amico as well as original artwork from Jerry Garcia and more. Interested buyers can take an advance look at the collection during a preview event at the company’s headquarters on Friday, September 7 from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. ET.
Sue Stephens worked for Jerry Garcia as his office manager, bookkeeper and assistant for 20+ years, while Annette Flowers held down various positions at the Grateful Dead office including work with the band’s Ice Nine publishing company. Filmmaker Len Dell’Amico helmed the Dead’s video team at many stadium shows and also co-directed the concert film So Far. “This auction is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Grateful Dead fans to bring home a piece of history from the band,” said Randy Donley, President of Donley Auctions, in a statement. “It’s a great collection of pieces – all from the Grateful Dead team members’ personal collections. This auction gives Dead Heads and music collectors the opportunity to own treasures you would find in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”
A list of lots including descriptions and photos can be viewed here. Journalist Jesse Jarnow looked through the hundreds of items and shared a few of the gems that are going up for auction such as Garcia’s rolodex, official Grateful Dead notary seals, a 1978 ledger and a check Jerry cashed at Whole Foods:
