I bought this from this guy for $400. And he told me that he got the signatures in person and it had a Beckett certificate of authentication with it. This is what came in the mail today. Definitely can't trust the coa. But, the signatures could be good. I'm no Cars expert. Please let me know what you think.

It may have been done over the phone, but nobody would just buy a $375 fake album. The guy said he made a mistake and is giving me a refund. That's it. I just want to make sure it goes smoothly.

I see signs that some of these are by one hand. I did not look at every one closely. I'd be working on a return. He is 80 - but don't make arguments for him. He wanted Friends and Family. That says enough to me.

This is the response as of today from the dispute I filed with PayPal.

I purchased a fully signed album of the band The Cars through Lawrence Cherry. The album was said to be guaranteed Authentic signed by the original 5 members of The Cars. There names are Benjamin Orr, Rick Ocasek, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, and David Robinson. I was also told that it came with a Certificate of Authentication from Beckett Authentication Services. Which it did not. Instead it comes with a Certificate from Autographs Network which is a well known to be accompanied with forgeries. If it had come with the Beckett like I was told it would have been proof of being Authentic. This is well known in the Autograph business. I also had it checked by several well known Authentication companies like the RACC, ACOA, JSA, and Steve Cyrkin. All very well trusted in Autograph Authentication. Ask anyone. I spoke to the seller Lawrence Cherry who was very frustrated with me, which is usually another red flag of fraud. People who make honest mistakes dont tend to get mad at a buyer. He said he made a mistake and would refund me my $375 back. I Write this in order to have a record of exactly what transpired between me(Andy Saunders) and Lawrence Cherry.

Also I need to mention that this money was paid by me to Mr. Cherry in 2 different split payments from 2 different credit cards that I used. They are titled The Cars payment 1 $218 and The Cars payment 2 $157. I guess I still lose out on the return shipping. I just want to make sure that everything goes forward smoothly and I receive my $375 back through paypal.

Part 2

The photo of the album is the actual one that was sent to me in the mail. As I previously explained it came with a phony coa and the signatures were forgeries. Customer was upset and said to send the item back for a full refund, but there is not a lot of trust in him after what has already occurred. I just want to make sure everything is documented correctly and I get my $375 back without any problems.

You have a lot of nerve opening up a dispute on my account. Now my PayPal is overdrawn by the amount you disputed. My dad has been in the memorabilia business for 30 years at least. He has never had an issue until now. You could have just sent the items back and then I would have refunded you. But now I’m going to dispute back on you. What is your proof these are fakes? Because someone told you that? That’s their opinion? But now you have pissed me off and my account is negative. If you want a refund, here is what will happen. You will cancel these 2 disputes, and then send the items back. Then once they are back and we confirm they are what we as sent, then you will be refunded. Nothing short of that will do.

I apologize if this is not to you liking, but I was told by many people in the business that this is the appropriate way to go about this sort of thing for my protection. As far as who are these people that say it’s not real. Just ask around. I included the names in the summary. Plus, He told me that it came with a coa from Beckett. They are reputable. The one he sent with the signed album is not. Here is a link to there other forgeries of the same.

As you can see. Now the guy is hanging the fact that I filled a dispute over my head.

I don't know what could/should have been done differently, but you jumped right to accusations in your dispute.  You could have just hung your hat on the fact that the COA was not Beckett as advertised.

The seller might honestly believe the item is real and now his integrity has been challenged.  Plus, for some reason, his son is involved because dad doesn't have his own PayPal account.?!

You will probably need to return the item at some point.  But I don't like son's ultimatums.

+1 First post in the thread:

"He sold you an item with Beckett and it doesn't have it? Return right there."

Exactly

I meant that I, as in me, would have returned it just because it did not come with a Beckett COA as advertised. That would have been simple and inarguable. As with those addresses you posted that had to be pulled, I don't think I would be posting that detailed info regarding your dispute.

One of the best defenses here would be to show a scan of the Beckett COA for this that was forwarded to you prior to the sale being completed.

I just reread this quickly - Andy was sent a scan of the supposed Beckett COA? I don't see that - missed it?

No, I was never sent a scan of the coa. That scan you see is a picture that I took of it after opening the package that came in the mail.

I know, I was responding to what Eddy thought.
