You were indeed right about that one.
thanks
Someone apparently had a lot of confidence in the authenticity of these signatures, as according to the auction results it sold for 8,500 British pounds (about $13,600). Any other opinions?
It looks good to me. It looks like it was signed in fountain pen, perhaps one with a worn nib, and that could affect how people sign. What auction did it sell in?
It was sold by Gorringes Auctions on October 24th.
Thanks. Gorringes is a good art, antiques and collectables auction house from what I've heard, and has a guarantee of authenticity.
For comparison, here's a signed Twist and Shout EP from Frank Caiazzo's website. According to Frank, it was signed "within one month and a half from the time of release", which would also date the signatures to July/August 1963. These appear much more natural to me. Look at the difference between the two George signatures.
Ballroom,
Those are the signature styles i am used to seeing. It is my opinion the original item doesnt look right. I most certainly could be wrong here b/c i dont have extensive Beatles knowledge, as pointed out by others. But the original looks very strange to me to be legit. Thus i hope Roger will add an opinion as to good or bad, as it is not used to what ive seen in authentic examples. However, if Steve thinks its real, then that is probably a good sign as to its authenticity as he tends to be right most of the time on Beatles.
I sometimes give weird signatures too much benefit of the doubt. This is quite possibly the case here.
if it sold 8500.00 lbs. More than one person was bidding. and if they have that kind of cash, i'd pretty much bet they new what they were bidding on.
