I'm curious what members thoughts might be on this signed Hitchcock sketch. It has a JSA letter accompanying it (the darker scan is from the JSA website). It's approx. 6" x 6".  If real, does it look to be an earlier sketch? Does the fact that it's not personalized make a difference?  Thanks!

Etienne, Looks like fountain pen to me. For $1500+ get the seller to offer a return if it does not pass another 3rd party authenticator.  If the seller does not like the idea…..walk away.

That's good advice, David.  The Beckett authentication option is probably not a possibility for a favorable certification as they have already deemed it Unlikely To Pass Full Authentication on their initial signature review.  PSA would be the only other option...I think I will submit it to their Quick Opinion service and see what they say.

For that kind money, cover your bases. Make sure you submit the JSA info to PSA if you submit.

I am in agreement with Beckett on this one.  Atypical.  I will be surprised if it passes PSA.  Please keep us posted, Etienne.

Mike...thanks for weighing in. I'll definitely post PSA's response.
I'm trying to get a better handle on these sketches....I came across another. It would be a later example, if authentic.

How does it look?

Better.  The autograph appears to be more typical, although it is very sloppy.

Thanks, Mike. I'd definitely like to see an example that most would agree is undeniably genuine.

Well, here is the PSA Quick Opinion on the sketch above in black ink:

-----------------------------------------------------------

Your PSA/DNA QuickOpinion request for the item described as, Alfred Hitchcock signed & inscribed cut with Self Portrait Sketch.

The result is:

Likely Not Genuine

It's interesting that both Beckett and PSA rendered the opinion that this is not authentic when an image of JSA's LOA is included in the listing that they examinec.

I disagree with JSA on this one.

Agreed. It just goes to show that 3rd party opinions are not infallible and even can disagree with one another.

I do have to give credit to Beckett and PSA. They could have just gone along with the JSA supplied authentic letter contained in the listing.

Does the JSA Loa look real?

Hi Phil-

To your question...Yes, the JSA letter seems to be the real thing. What's odd is that it's stated that the writing implement is fiber-tip marker. As we discussed above, it looks more like fountain pen on the scans provided.
