Bump - it's not really even a signature but the context suggests authenticity. In fact it makes no sense if it is not his writing.

Oh I agree that it is not his signature, it's block capitals, but could it be his hand-writing?

For context, it was an unsolicited donation to a cause I am sure he would have deemed worthy at the time.

That "W" is not unlike his.

That first example is not a million miles away!

What kind of date was that? 1971 is pretty early.

The "N" and "Y" are pretty close as well.

1968 according to the site - but is says he experimented with these styles in the early 1970's.

I'm thinking authentic.
