Oh, I've already posted my first question LOL!

UK based Dylan only collector with a nice Dylan collection some contreversal !! been on the site for around two years, been collecting Dylan for ten years and was closely connected to the late Dylan expert and collector, Charles Lemataire who sadly passed two years ago, i just have a complete fasination on Bob Dylan and enjoy the chase of new items every day

Where to start....the beginning.  I've collected autographs here and there from professional sports athletes or anyone else I came in contact with.  My little league held a banquet where a player from The Boston Red Sox would come and sign a bunch of programs. One year I won a bat which I had autographed by Denny Doyle.  I collect all sports cards and autographs no matter who it is.  Crossed paths with Bob Stanley at a bar one night.  Attended events with former Patriots players and got, Russ Francis, Mosi Tatupuu and others to sign.  Other autographs I obtained with the aide of family members crossing paths with Kevin Gamble, Gord Kluzak, John Bucyk, John Mackenzie, Kevin Stevens, Bobby Orr, Kristi Yamaguchi, and others.  I am only a collector and just use this site to obtain information for me to write letters requesting an autograph on a 3 x 5 note card which I send.  Recently, I obtained autographs from a couple Fox Sports news girls through Facebook, and Adrienne Lavalley through her website.  This is the girl on TV advertising National Floors Direct.

Most of my autographs are from opening card packs or writing letters to people and waiting.  Be patient is all I can say.  Oh just remembered these two, Josh Gates of Destination Truth and Jim Morris (story of the rookie) got autographed books by sheer luck after writing letters.

Good luck to all.  If there is a place you can suggest to write to people sports or actors/actresses please let me know.  I look forward to telling you more as I finally catalog my collection slowly but surely.

Hi all,

My name is Steve and I am a junior at the University of Minnesota. I began collecting autographs, mostly baseball Hall of Famers (up to about 70 pieces), a little over a year ago after having collected baseball cards with my father for most of my life. I just recently joined the site because I don't get to talk about the hobby much, and I would like to learn as much about the hobby as possible.

I look forward to listening and contributing in the future!

Hello everyone :)

I have to be honest with you and say that I wouldn't really class myself as a collector.....however...

I acquired an autograph some years ago.... and would really like opinions as to whether it is authentic?

Its 'Janis Joplin'!! The autograph is written on what look to be the back cover of an autograph book, in a 'biro' type pen. The cover is a brown vinyl wrapped cardboard page, with a textured surface. The vinyl on the cover is a little brittle, and really does smell authentic!!! if you know what I mean - like is has been in the attic for years! It came with a copy of 'Joplin - In Concert' LP and does have a certificate with it. But its the certificate that makes me question the authenticity.....

I would very much like to hear some feedback from members. I shall post copies of the signature + certificate for you to see.

Thank you :)

Hi everyone, my name is Jud. I've been collecting for three years. I like to collect Orioles autographs. I mainly get my autographs during spring training in FL. In order to obtain more Orioles autographs, this year I will be attending other MLB team practices; and hope to make some trades. Braves and Blue Jays fans, talk to me in a few months. ;)

Hi, everyone.  I've been collecting autographs since 1994.  I'm mostly interested in vintage hollywood and other historical signatures.  I started collecting when I accidentally found a menu card in an old book.  The card was signed by Ellen Terry and quite a few other celebrated theater and art people who were attending the dinner gathering.  I'm also a retired English teacher and developed a lengthy lesson plan around collecting autographs and biography study for my students.  I was able to get a grant to develop my project so I and my students collected a lot of autographs through the mail and in the process learned a lot about the people we wrote to.  My personal collection (mainly through the mail) is over 700 at present.  Most of the people I wrote to were retired or coming to the ends of their careers so I think a lot of them are quite authentic.  Also had a little gimmick in the letters that encouraged them to write back.  Also collected some in person and purchased as well.  Anyone interested in the lesson plan, can send me an email (abaggetta@yahoo.com)  and I'll send it along as an attachment.  Lots of fun to be had in collecting and this is a great site to learn from.

Al B.

Interesting story, Al. Welcome to AML! You should post the lesson plan and some of your successes on this site.

Not sure exactly how to do that on this site.

Hi, I'm a newbie here, though I've been collecting autographed trading cards for about 10 years. I mostly collect entertainment autographs, and I have a large collection of autographed trading cards and playbills, and a few other miscellaneous items.  I started a few threads asking for opinions. Thanks for looking everyone!

My first childhood autograph was Phil Esposito but it has long since disappeared.  You are very fortunate to still have the signature that started it all.  Welcome aboard Jay.

I have loved classic rock ever since I was young, but only recently started collecting autographs.  I recently got a great Roger Waters "The Wall Live" limited edition lithograph signed in gold sharpie.  I didn't get the autograph but did attend the concert (unfriggin believable btw, if you can catch a date on his Europe run I HIGHLY recommend it).  Like a moron I committed to buying it, THEN started to read about all the forgery that runs rampant in the autograph world.  I was pretty worried I may have bought a fake.

Roger Epperson to the rescue!  I found his site and his online opinion option.  He came back saying it was most likely authentic.  Had the seller send it directly to Roger for the LOA and it passed.  I love this piece.

Anyway, soon after this purchase I spotted a mint condition Dark Side of the Moon canvas signed by Waters in the same gold marker.  Nothing like having a sister piece... right?  After the purchase of this item (it is my user photo btw) I found myself searching online shops for more.  I no doubt caught the fever... now it is just a matter of if my bank account can survive it!  LOL

At any rate, I want to give special thanks to Roger for doing what he does.  I know I can buy in confidence now.  I must say I was downright shocked to read about all the fake stuff out there.  Even more shocked to read the feuds between Roger and the fraudsters.  Those pigs should be thrown in jail.  Alot of the smear campaign they ran against Roger is still on the net and several show up on the first page if you google search Roger Epperson.  I almost didn't go with Roger as my authenticator after reading some of the stuff... good thing I do my research.  He really should employ the services of a company like ReputationDefender to clean that trash up.

Anyway, I am glad to have found this website... so much good info on here!
