Authenticity is Everything
Is PSA/DNA right about this Madonna autograph?
I have been seeing seemingly far too many mistakes by the major TPAs which has always given me great concern about sending in very authentic items for these “experts” to determine my item’s fate and perhaps cost me and others a lot of money. Just a couple of really bad examples that I'm not going to elaborate much on now come to mind, but they have been discussed previously here. One was a Michael Jackson-signed Thriller album that was one of the worst MJ forgeries i have ever seen, but PSA/DNA gave it a passing LOA. Another was a recent screw-up by JSA concerning a JFK-signed letter accompanied by a JSA LOA that was determined to clearly be a secretarial JFK signature.
So now we have a Madonna-signed photo that PSA/DNA has deemed authentic. But is it? My instinct and little bit of experience with Madonna items tells me this is a blatant forgery. But look; I'm no expert on Madonna. I have some knowledge on the subjec, but I'm no KAMRAN! So I'd like to get some opinions about this Madonna photo. Is it real? Or is this another example of a TPA mess-up?

Very interesting signature. Not like I have ever seen before. Could it be a very recent signature? Everything looks so fresh. My instinct says no but... This is one that could use Kamran's eyes.

it looks like a adventurous faker to be honest....even when Madonna used to sign in the way the faker is trying...her pen flow was more direct....there is a great footage of Madonna signing on a Japanese tv show in 84/85 on a big card board...her classic sig....clear as day....I will try and find it 4 u

I understand why you would say that but since it has a recent PSA cert it had to be looked at. Madonna's new signatures seem to be just a wave although since the cert was just issued one month ago. People sign different ways over the years. I have come to expect anything. It never hurts to ask and expose.

I personally have had no experience with PSA/DNA so I do not really know their set up...but this item should not be endorsed by anyone

Hi Joe, I agree. I wasn't trying to imply that this item shouldn't be discussed. I just cannot believe that an authenticator would pass this.

The thing that concerns me is that once PSA authenticates this style of signature it becomes part of their database. Their influence in the hobby is far greater than it should be. Which leads to even bigger issues down the road. Too many people rely on PSA's "expertise".
That why I have come to ask members of this site before I spend my hard earned money.
